Just to post a recommendation for this little tale.
As the author says in the preamble, there is a definite "deus ex machina" to the end but really it's a satisfying way to tie up the story without a lot of convoluted ploys.
It's a hot little story that I found quite stimulating

The story is a very interesting twist on the mind controller story that really appeals to my sense of what an honorable man would try to do.
It could perhaps be expanded as a multi chapter story to give more details of the characters' lives after the events
Sounds interesting! There are 2 stories with "Accidental Master" in the title but neither mention "deus ex machina" in the description.
