Shout out to Lubrican and his latest "Seventh Sense "

Finbar_Saunders ๐Ÿšซ

Up to chapter 16 at the moment and it's really intriguing.
The storyline is one thing but I also commend the design of the story.
It's such a nice romance and manages to mix the fantastic with the mundane seemingly effortlessly.
I like, for example, how there's no really complicated plan to their trying to evade their pursuers, going instead for realism of amateurs.
So, whilst I could have popped this bit of fan mail in the 'reviews' section I wanted to enter into a discussion thread and ask what stories you've been impressed by, not just by the tale but also the structure and flow of the writing ?

You've put your finger on something here. Lubrican's stories all have the same feel. That's because they all have the same flow or pace or movement or whatever you want to call it. They move along like a river, sometimes placid, sometimes rapids but always in control. I don't doubt I could start reading one of his without knowing who wrote it and have him identified in less than two chapters.

Other authors here are similar. qhml1 is a good example. His stories have the feeling of a machine gun, going thump-thump-thump-thump.....

Colin Barrett flows like silk.

Lazlo Zalezec is recognizable. To me, his stories move like a skilled prize fighter, always sticking you with a jab, countering one of your punches, bob and weaving and ducking out of the way.

Others of my favorite authors I can't get a handle on. Al Steiner for one. I'm not sure I'd recognize one of his stories if I started it without knowing who wrote it.

As to which story of these authors have that feel? All of them. I can't single any one of them out.

Getting back to Seventh Sense, I think this may be Lubrican's best story here since Any Soldier back in 2010, although Inspecting the Inspector from the same year came damn close. Not to say he hasn't written anything good in that period โ€“ far from it โ€“ just that I haven't had the "jaw droppingly good" feeling from any of them since at least those two.

Seventh Sense still has to finish and given the direction it takes, it could fall out of contention for "jaw droppingly good". But I doubt it. I could remove all doubt by buying it but then I would miss out on the anticipation of each new set of chapters showing up in my Library.

I initially planned on reviewing it, something I haven't been doing much of lately. But seeing your interest, I might just wait it out and see if you're ready to step back into the breech. Notice you've been inactive for awhile also. But I don't know what more I could add to what you and I have already said here and in Comments to the story itself. Or maybe I'll just stay away from it completely.

Cheers Jim.
Great response there.

It was really good also made me think that it would AWESOME if it had a sequel that was done NCIS style (or maybe not a sequel but a retelling of the final few chapters), with his team taking missions from the goverment while having the romance and political intrigue drama. Think something like the mentalist but with his story and characters.

Yep,
I am working up to writing a review of this story but I think I want to re-read the whole thing first.
I had an immediate knee-jerk reaction to the finish that made me miffed because I was enjoying the ride so much. That's morphed slowly into an understanding that the whole story was actually about those final chapters; how would a 'weapon' of such power be safely deployed on the side of the angels and what checks and balances would need to be in place. I still would have liked a couple more chapters perhaps to make more explicit, how the representatives of the government and judiciary were won over so completely, but that's just me.

The idea of a set of vignettes covering their missions might be interesting, but would run the risk of losing sight of the original's investigation into the ethics/moralities of absolute power and intrinsic innocence.

Gotta admit that I wouldn't have clicked on the story if it wasn't for this thread. Ended up enjoying the snippets well enough that I sprung for the book and am working my way through it right now.

Solid writing, good pacing, nice character development.... basically, it's as good as you could ask for. I'm not far into it, but I'm enjoying the ride and looking forward to seeing what happens next.

Tv is not good, including ncis
