Question to you who are up to date on Arlene & Jeff

Sppok ๐Ÿšซ

I stopped reading Arlene & Jeff at ch 182 of the third book a while ago. I was thinking of picking it up again but I'd like to know if the things that made me stop last time is worse or better in the latest chapters.
What I'm talking about isn't weddings, not really as I think that all the weddings are a sympton of it. It's the whole side-character PoV bonanza. I really liked the first 2 books, where it's about what the blurb says, Jeff keeping their family together. But when you have about 15 different alphas and all of them have multiple partners, Jeff and his family gets alot less "screen time" than they used to. I don't think I could name half of Jeff's current wives because in the last 50 chapters some of them have barely been mentioned or said a word. I don't mind that there are alot of side characters, nor that there are alot of weddings, but I do mind how in depth of all their personal stories and the time that's spent from their PoVs. I'm sorry but I don't really care about 3 construction workers even if one of them is an alpha. I don't need to spend 20 chapters getting to know a new girl that will marry a side-character and almost disappear from the story. Yes, keep those characters because they add to the story, but give the less important characters less attention. Tell their stories through the eyes of the protagonist or something. The story hasn't moved anywhere in a long while because of all the side plots that every alpha in the clan has, all of which are told in depth.

I found the pacing of the first 2 books alot better, and I know that it won't get better anytime soon where I am at the story. But I was wondering if the latest chapters like the ~450+ still derails on long sideplots that could be mostly glossed over that drags the story down to a snails pace?

Lately, a lot of time has been given to Morales and Jasmine on Prison Planet. As I've enjoyed that side story I'm happy as a pig in mud. Also, Jeff and some of his family have been spending some time with them there.

There's also been some side story dealing with the oriental female architect who is about to be divorced and join the harem. That basically wraps up the last little while other than the aliens who show up for a partial chapter here and there.

I'm loving it. I know this is off topic entirely but for some reason, Arlene always shows up in my mind as Mary the older sister from Little House On The Praire but with bigger breasts. Oh well, I just dated my old ass lol.

I suspect the author is very responsive to feedback, so when one of the many diversions gets a lot of positive feedback, it monopolises the narrative for a while.

I thought the Morales sub-plot would interest only survivalists (of which there are a lot on SOL), but the ice-cave developments have piqued my interest as a science fiction fan. However that seems to have been sidelined by Morales' emergence as an alpha.

I wonder whether the 'aliens' sub-plot has been brushed aside for a while. It used to be the main feature, with ship not daring to leave Earth in case the aliens launch an attack and members of Jeff's family constantly under threat as they monitor the aliens' progress, but hasn't ship recently left Earth to visit the prison planet?

Ship doesn't mind leaving Earth as long as Jeff is going along.

That rings a bell. Thanks.

What's funny is other than smart big assed animals trying to eat you Prison Planet sounds like a paradise especially since there's a woman there.

I hope all the new luxuries doesn't fuck it up. I'm all for the outhouse, running water, medicine, and lights, and since they have the critters the guns. But hell at the rate they're going the general should just build a damn town and call it done.

The author has done a 'build a town' subplot with Frank Wainwright. Apart from the story's original premise (the local bully coercing wife and daughter into sex), IMO that was the weakest subplot so far. However that might just be a cultural bias, since several SOL authors regularly get stellar scores with stories with the underlying subtext that there's no problem so big it can't be solved by throwing more money at it.

Sometimes it does seem to drag a bit.
I sometimes wonder if the author is trying to figure an elegant way out of just having Ship:
Translate in, fire main weapons blowing the alien ship into space dust bunnies, then translate back over the mountain 1.27 seconds later.
