A New Past, Book 3

jimh67

I've read the first four chapters of Book 3, and I'm not finding the same enjoyable story I read before the hiatus. Other than the sabatoge incident at the very beginning, the plot progression seems to have ground to a halt in favor of planning in excruciating detail and monologues by Paul disguised as conversations. I'm sure a lot of people love that stuff, but I prefer action, and there hasn't been much of that yet.

Because there are close to 7,000 votes for the story, if these new chapters were getting lower scores, that wouldn't make a dent in the score. So I don't know if it's just me being grumpy.

Does the plot ever pick up?

I wholeheartedly agree. I am a firm believer that some stories should be ended. Do authors just continue them because they have fans or are they hoping to rekindle their muse?

Funny you should ask that, but today's chapter (58) opens the possibility of some mind-bending time/dimension travel shenanigans to come.

Since he first came back, P)aul has been bothered by how it happened. After the North Korean attack, he went back to the equations he had set aside to work on the time vector he could never get totally resolved, because he wanted to be able to go back in time and stop the attack. This whole section is going to be about how he resolves that issue, and how he gets around NASA and the US government is his quest to utilize outer space, esp Mars and the asteroid belt. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Thank you awnlee and LonelyDad. I was hoping that was the case but I've been burned before by sticking with a story long after the author has started just phoning it in.

The author has posted a new blog entry that he has written the ending to the story and it will end with 62-64 chapters.
