Time zones

I'm not sure if this forum is the right one for my question, but I don't know where else to put it.

How does the time stamps on posted stories work? You know, where it says at the top of the posted chapter, something like Posted: June 23, 2018 - 08:15:37 am. The time stamp there, is that the authors local time zone, or are all stories here on SOL on a specific time zone? If so, which one? All I'm fairly sure of is that it's not the readers local time zone that's shown, since the story I'm following has all time stamps around 8 am while they show up for me on the afternoon or evening. Does anyone know?

The time in the chapter is the server time currently UTC -4 I'm not sure how it is set with regards to DST. The time in the listing is GMT and converted to the browser local time, add/remove a few browser bugs...

.

I knew that SOL was in Canada, but this puts it in the Atlantic time zone, which narrows it down to New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, or Newfoundland and Labrador (though only part of Labrador is in the Atlantic time zone).

And all three of these Canadian provinces observe daylight savings time.

The Remaining time zones for North America are

Eastern UTC -5
Central UTC -6
Mountain UTC -7
Pacific UTC -8
Alaska UTC -9

Not really North America, but to round out the US:
Hawaii/Aleutian islands UTC -10

From SI:

I'm following has all time stamps around 8 am while they show up for me on the afternoon or evening.

Hmm, Wonder if we can figure out where SI is from this?

Assuming an English speaking country, I'd guess Australia.

This is how the time is displayed for me;
Author page, Series/University page, Updated Serial Page, and... - My local time.

The only page that I found (this time) that shows another time zone;
Story detail (more info) page - Server time?

Edit: Just to clarify, I'm a premier member.
Chapter pages also show server time.

@Ernest Bywater

So it looks like the server is observing DST and is set to EST time.

It used to be (I just changed it) that the time stamp at the top of the chapters is in the server's time, which is Eastern. EST in winter and EDT in summer, so UTC -5 in summer and UTC -4 in winter.

I've changed it to work like the listings, so now it includes the code to show you the time stamp in your local time.
