Story posting time

BrandonInOhio 🚫

Hi all,
I looked for an FAQ and tried searching the forums and didnt see anything.

Are new stories updated/added to the site at a specific time everyday, or is it multiple times per day?

Apologies if this is covered somewhere obvious and I just don't see it.

Thanks

@BrandonInOhio

At least twice per day, around 0800 and 2000 'local' time, which I believe is UTC-4 at the moment.

Stories are often posted at other times during the day, but the two windows are the 'sure thing' (barring any technical or other problem).

Yes, Thanks for writing and adding to our reading pleasure.

@Michael Loucks

Does that also apply to storyroom.com and scifistories.com ?

It's not a straight forward answer.

I currently live in the middle east, and our time here is 7 hours ahead of EDT.

The sites' system has two time slots for post-date stories. 8am and 8pm EDT.

At those two time slots, anything post dated for that day shows up in our queue for processing. However, it really depends on when we're available to process it.

I get to my office at 8am Middle East time, which is 1am EDT. I process whatever is in the queue at the time, so between 1am and 2am EDT. I continue processing throughout my day and evening, on all the sites until around 3pm EDT.

Vixen, my assistant, does processing also and she lives in the US, in the EDT area. She processes things during the day and she's the only one that handles the 8pm time slot. Sometimes she forgets about the other sites. She's the only moderator between 3pm EDT and 10pm EDT. Nobody is available between 10pm and 1am EDT.

Now of course, we're humans living life, and sometimes life interferes and if something gets in the way, posts go few hours without processing, and since Vixen and I are getting old, sometimes we forget to go through all the queues on all the sites every time we check.

For a while StoryRoom was neglected, but I'm trying my best to make processing there as frequent as SOL.

I'm still amazed by how much you and Vixen get done. Just vetting all the stories and keeping everything running in itself must be exhausting, not to mention putting up with all the miscellaneous questions posted in the forums that you always answer. You are appreciated, sir, even if we don't always acknowledge it.

As well as putting up with all the idiots and self-important gits out there as well.

Bravo! Well Done!

Thank you for your answer. I may send polite requests to you or Vixen if it takes a while to see it posted. I mean no disrespect, I'm just one to follow-up occasionally.

Please don't be overly hasty about that.

If two people are doing all the work, and one of them gets the flu, things will fall behind. Sending an email won't cure them.

If the posting rate seems normal, but your story is a week behind schedule, then it becomes reasonable to check whether it has been misplaced.

I posted this morning. I'll wait for about 24 hours before following up via a polite email. If they get to it before then, I won't need to. I also add a thank you note to the moderator in the submission.

@Duncan7

SOL just had an update, so hopefully someone will shortly check the StoryRoom queue.

ETA the latest chapter is now on StoryRoom. IMO the word 'rumble' gets overused.

Give him a break. Laz is probably still trying to catch up on his sleep.

@awnlee jawking

I used it less in the next chapter. Not counting grumble or crumble though.

Not counting grumble or crumble

I always have doubt when I write "crumple" (never sure if it should be "crumble") when the character's knees buckle and he crumples to the floor. I look it up EVERY time.

@Switch Blayde

If someone crumbles to the floor, presumably they end up in tiny pieces. Like Jamal Khashoggi did, except for not needing a bone saw.

Apple crumble.

Do jet-ski engines rumble? In my limited experience, they make a horrible whiny sound.

And do men rumble when they speak? I thought that was a cliche used by women writers who have never interacted with a man long enough to talk with him.

Am I getting near to a horrible death yet?

I added the word to my pre-flight checklist.

You're still on the positive side. More a supporter than a critic/horrible death, he rumbled…

Just like cars around you it is dependant on the Year, Make, and Model. But the newer thet are the quiter they have become.

Not my car. It even has 3 settings for how loud you want the engine to sound.

As soon as the traffic police knock off for the day, out come cars driven by persons of certain ethnicities that have been modified to have extremely loud exhausts, including emitting series of bangs. They can be heard from miles away.

@awnlee jawking

The street behind my house starts sounding like Firebird Raceway after about 10pm a couple nights each week. Between the unmuffled exhaust, and the forced backfires, it gets quite noisy.
