Wild Child by Levi Charon

In this story from 2012, Levi Charon has gone to great pains to accurately record the Appalachian accent of a major character. I am personally quite familiar with that accent and believe Levi Charon did a good job of using it. I would have liked the story better if the author had given us a sampling of the accent and then used standard American English, instead of using the accent throughout the character's dialogue. The accent made the story more difficult to read.

It does, yet it also doesn't capture the nature and flow of the writing. Thus it's akin to translations, where the writer has more leverage in how they convey something to achieve the original writers intent.

As noted, there are many famous authors whose work is virtually impenetrable and then there are those who write in a fluid, beautify and easily readable manner. So I'm familiar with the anguish of reading those works, yet I wouldn't seek to change it myself—as it serves a distinct purpose.
