I find it interesting that a story that won for years best incest story, later on deeply examined how damaging that relationship was to all involved. It has affected how much I can enjoy an incest story since it shows the damage of one so clearly.

Yeah, I got started writing incest stories because I hated the whole 'I saw my mother/sister/father/brother/dog/cat in the shower and just HAD to have sex with them'.
That's not realistic at all, as it's been proven that even when we don't know we're related, we can tell simply from someone's smell that they are. Thus they'll immediately recoil from those situations. So realistically, incest is a MAJOR emotional burden to cross, not just a casual one. In short, it takes a long time to work up the nerve to cross that immense divide.
And, once you've made love with anyone, everything changes. Sometimes for the good, and other times it'll turn positively tragic on a number of fronts. The key is, it'll NEVER remain the same as it was, which is what makes those situations so utterly fascinating, and so filled with emotional drama.
