Castle in the Sand

eg5305 ๐Ÿšซ

Just a note to point out that Deana Johns is posting Castles in the Sand. This is an old story -- copyright 1997 -- but it's a good one. I read it back then, and occasionally re-read it. Deana says that some previously removed parts are being added back.

Anyway, Deana does not take any comments or communications, so all I can do is post here and say that I liked it the first time, I recommend it, and I hope that it gets the attention it deserves.

Good to know. I do remember reading the bank scene in a story. Was not sure if the author was reposting from another site or something else was happening. I would have asked the author if they had a contact option. Castles in the Sand is the title of a completely different story also. I think it is on the old asstr site.

I thought that looked familiar. Thanks for the assurance that I'm not quite that senile.

Do not know if it is because SOL is having problems today, but Castle in the sand is listed in the up for archival section today. Do you know anything about this?

Last I heard, the standard is 7 years, so any story that old is automatically archived so members, or those with enough downloads, can read them whenever they want, yet they're not available otherwise, supposedly making room for new authors and new stories.

I'll mention that for anyone who uses Z-Library, they seem to have a copy of the complete text in three separate HTML files. There are 97 chapters in total and the last one does include a "The End" tag.

According to File Explorer, I downloaded 97 Chapters packaged in 14 .txt files back in June, 2002.

My text file that I also got back in 2014 had the title listed as "Castle in the Sand, by D. J. Pederson" I found it from ASSTR in Apache's favorite stories. Unfortunately the one I had wasn't broken into chapters, so not sure what my last chapter is.

In looking a my saved files, I found that I have 2 versions of the story. I do not know the download source.
One consists of 3 html files with a copyright date of 1997 by Deana Johns that was downloaded in May 2006 consisting of 96 chapters.
The second consists of 14 txt files with a copyright date of 1996 by D. J. Pederson that was downloaded in May 2006 consisting of 14 chapters.
A quick check of these two versions of the stories, done primarily at the beginning and end, indicate that they are essentially the same story.
As to what is being posted now here on SOL, I am looking forward to reading it!

@rustyken

Well if you're waiting for posting to be complete before you read it, I think you can start now because there's a high chance the author completed it before posting started - around 27-28 years before posting started.

I noted the story, but assumed it was a new story with the same name. Knowing it's a revision of the original, I'll have to read it, as it was a tremendous story.

It's always great seeing old-timers getting back into posting again, and it's generally a cause for celebration, for consistency, if nothing else.

@Vincent Berg

If stories are automatically being archived while they are being posted, they had not logged in for several years and one of two things are happening:
- an author has resurfaced after all that time.
- the stories are being posted posthumously.

The only case of "resurfaced" I can remember was Moghal, and of course his "email" button was also inactive. In the end someone got word to him and he got in touch with Lazeez, the stories are no longer premier only.
That's a bug really, a resurfacing author should be un-archived and maybe even reachable via SOL email.

In this case, IIRC, what happened is that the full story was delivered to Lazeez with instructions to post and place it into Premium Status.

@akarge

and place it into Premium Status.

My impression is that part happens automatically for non-active author accounts, and this one qualifies (no other stories posted).
