1) It's a universe
3) The oldest date in my library is 2019, but I am pretty sure the original start is older than that.
I have to say 'don't know' to the other questions.
It's a universe
I started looking through the ones posted on SOL and right away I found one posted in 2002, so they have been around for a long time.
I don't know if any were ever posted on ASSTR or any other site, although I sure at least some of the authors posted them on their own sites as well.
I would hazard a guess that a good many of the well-known authors on SOL have done at least one NIS story.
I doubt that ALL the Naked in School stories have been posted her, but there is an entire Universe here on SOL.
2: The name Karen comes to mind, although I'm not sure if that's an author, a character, or both, for the seminal work (like Average Joes is for The Swarm).
4: No. I think at ASSTR, like for the swarm cycle. Certainly artie had (at least) one, MC named Ron (and given a nick 'ashtray'), which I don't think was posted here.
ETA: yes, Karen Wagner, Karen Naked in School on here. And, from an ASSTR archive site,
June 27, 2001 marks the beginning of the NiS Universe. Karen Wagner published "Karen naked in school"
The first Naked in School story was written by a woman named Karen. It was published before 2001. I don't know the exact year. She gave permission for anyone to use the universe and it became trendy to write one through the 00's and early 10's.
Nobody thought to check the universe's description on the site?
From the description:
Naked in School stories is a universe of stories about kids who, enrolled by their parents or by volunteering, must stay completely naked for one whole week, obeying all the rules of the school. Original Concept by Karen Wagner.

There was a lot of stories in the universe that were not posted on SOL due to the age thing. Those stories were generally posted on ASSTR and involved kids from kindergarten and up.
SOL's age restrictions were codified in September 2011 and most of the NiS stories were posted years before that.
The person subsequently known as Don Lockwood added a major twist to that Universe when he introduced the "Buddy" system, he mostly ceased writing in June 2004 when his wife left him. Some of his characters were pretty young (middle school?) and - thinking back on it - that could have been a reason for her to leave and take their daughters with her. He had been posting a NiS story at the time and that one was abandoned then and there (yes, he still posted occasional "Rewind" chapters until February 2007).
He had a Yahoo Group at the time. That group was then killed by Yahoo a couple of days later, the owner of the group had permitted uploads by group members (and maybe even non-members). As far as he could work out (and Yahoo was not being helpful) someone had uploaded kiddie porn to the group and then someone had reported this to Yahoo, he kind of assumed that both someones were his wife. Several other Group owners (and authors) promptly changed the rights for their groups to disallow uploading of files.
A large part of this was and is speculation, some by "Don" back then and some by me years later.
There was absolutely no hint of an allegation at any time that Don had abused his kids or any other kids.
The Clitorides may even have been a part of the story, he had been passed over for "Author of the Year" and was posting new chapters of multiple stories pretty much daily. I don't have a clue as to whether that caused problems in his marriage or if it was a reflection of the existing problems.
Anyway, Yahoo Groups was deleted a few years back now.
A number of stories that were originally posted on other sites were reposted here years later, so the dates on some of the stories on this site are misleading.
The first story was by Karen Wagner. It inspired two authors to write more stories: Sevispac wrote a story using the main character, which evolved into the HPoE pedophile/incest universe, while Peregrin F wrote his first three stories, which were what helped Karen's original story turn into the NiS universe. Many subsequent NiS stories reflect do Don Lockwood's influence, as Dinsdale says, but all of them show Peregrin F's influence (except a few of Sevispac's).
So, if you are looking for how the NiS universe started, read Karen Wagner's story, then Peregrin F's first three stories (Carl and Beth).
If you're looking for historical sequence, Tenyari's Alandra comes before the Don Lockwood series. That was the first NiS story with a negative experience.
There were other stories before the Don Lockwood series, but I don't think any of those are on SOL, and only a few were good.
When it comes to reading in sequence, I would suggest to keep the masterfully written stories by Ndenyal to when you're about ready to get out of it. He wrote a wonderful deconstruction series that starts with two independent stories of Kevin and Denise, Roger and Cynthia, then getting crossover sequels. They wrapped it up so effectively for me, I haven't even read his own later written Emma Comes In From the Cold, and Freedom...
There is an argument for reading stories with positive experiences until you get sick of them, then go to the negative experiences, and end with the stories of revolts against the NiS system.
There are a few stories that don't fit in this scheme. Barbar's Suellen springs to mind, and Dr Bill's Magnificent Mysterians.
For negative experiences, I'd suggest Tenyari's Alandra and Barbar's Margot. I do not think that Chrisy Giles' Rosie and K Kat's Scars are on this site.
For revolt stories, there are the six+ by Ndenyal on this site (Freedom to Be Free is still in progress). The earliest revolt story was Obohobo's John and Mary, but that doesn't seem to be on SOL. Another revolt story I liked was Daphne Xu's Oliver (not on this site). Frank Speaks and Shrink42 have also written NiS revolt stories.
