The Vengeful Tide by WordsToTheWise deleted?

HeroTheKna ๐Ÿšซ

Hello, I just opened The Vengeful Tide webpage, and it says that "The story 'The Vengeful Tide' by 'WordsToTheWise' was not found.
It was deleted on 2024-03-04 08:09:09.
Reason for deletion: Deleted at author's request".

Do you guys know Why did it get deleted? I loved that story.

@HeroTheKna

According to the author he lost interest and wasn't going to work on it anymore.

Wow, they went through and scrubbed everything from everywhere. I do hope that the story is reposted, even in an incomplete status. I get getting burned out, but it's a shame to so completely remove a good work.

Why would anyone want to read an incomplete story? I never understood that. If it was up to me, every incomplete story would be deleted.

If it was up to me, every incomplete story would be deleted.

Thankfully, that is not the case or I would not exist here.

But back to your first statement, what constitutes a complete story? I have yet to read a complete story, anywhere on any medium. It may be 'finished' to the author, but every story I have ever read, I want to know more about characters, situations etc, etc. Some questions may be answered by a sequel, but that inevitably just creates more story arcs that I would like to read more of.

There was another thread here, where the topic was (roughly) 'How long is too long?' and various people supplied various story length numbers of existing pieces of fiction. Realistically, at some point, you have to stop writing the story. Indeed, one of the recurring comments about long stories, is that they just end up re-hashing already used plot lines and the story just because a continual retread of the same few plot points and the story quality quickly diminishes because of this.

My take on the matter, is that stories fire up your imagination, and give the reader the chance to flesh out 'missing' parts of a story, or at least, provide the framework for individual readers to tailor the story to their personal taste whilst travelling the rail track provided by the author.

If a story leaves the reader hungry for more, is that not the sign of a good, imaginative writer?

Is a fifty thousand uncompleted story inferior to a five thousand completed one, just because it's uncompleted'?

If what you propose was the rule (completed stories only), then all that I would see happening, is that people will write stories up to the point that they get bored, then tack on some unsatisfying conclusion to make it 'finished' and then submit.

I think this would just lead to lots of good stories with deeply unsatisfying endings that don't match the tone or pace of the previous chapters.

From my personal experience, when I try to end a story, I just get lots of PM's saying "How can you end it there!" and similar. From a authors point of view, you just can't f@cking win....

I say Pixie old chap. Speaking of unfinished and incomplete stories, your legion of fans are waiting for at least another chapter of Aran. Arun? Whatever.

I am a perfect example of enthusiasm far outdoing ability.

Add into the mix an unhealthy level of procrastination (I'm on the forums when I should be writing), life generally be a twat at the moment, the previously mentioned disconnect between the reality of ability and the existence of envisioned ability...and...yeah...

A story that the author says is finished. This isn't a tough question.

I have yet to read a complete story, anywhere on any medium. neat

What is with this forum and constant thread sliding into complete nonsense? You know what a complete story is, I know what a complete story is. Everyone knows what a complete story is.

From a authors point of view, you just can't f@cking win....

Sure you can. Write a story with a beginning, a middle and an end. You are clearly insanely overthinking the complexity of this. No one wants to spend a week reading a story that just stops in the middle and that the author isn't going to ever revisit. That is why I say they should be removed. To me, its just clutter and the best case scenario is that a reader reads the story and really gets into it and then is left with blue balls at it just stopping with no ending.

If you are really arguing that a story where the author dropped dead halfway into writing it are indistinguishable from your completed stories, then I guess I think that's kinda sad.

Try finding it on the wayback machine. If it isn't buried too deep in a webpage you might be able to find it.

SOL stories cannot be found using the Wayback Machine, although I think author lists and story lists can. Of course they are pretty useless without the actual content.

I know, and I'd just started reading the new chapter he dropped on Feb 27th too, and was really looking forward to seeing how the new connection with the Wail would pan out.

It doesn't make sense to me though that he went scorched earth and wiped EVERYTHING only days after releasing a new chapter, can't even check for a blog post since he wiped his accounts too.

I was able to find a post from October on another site where he announced he was terminating his Patreon account as his life was going in a very strange different direction (His Words), and that he was no longer able to dedicate himself to the site anymore (I assume he was referring to his Patreon since he regularly made/poseted art of the characters there, and he wouldn't have the time for it anymore), but that he wasn't done with it and was still gonna be adding new chapters, and how it was way too much fun to drop (Which adds to my confusion, if only a few months ago after 5+ years writing it, I believe CH.1 was in 2018, he still loved and had fun with the story; what changed in the relatively short time of the last 4ยฝ-5mths that he completely changed to not enjoying the story or writing it at all to the point he nuked it and himself completely, everywhere?).

Here's his post from October 15th, 2023:

"Greetings my wonderful patrons!

I had agonized on how to bring this news to you so many times and even as I write this, I'm honestly unsure of how to properly proceed. Nevertheless, I wish to always be honest and upfront with you guys.

I've decided to end my patreon. Life is taking me in a very strange direction, one that shows me I won't be able to dedicate to this site anymore. Now, let me say, I'm not giving up The Vengeful Tide. I'll still be posting it on Lit and StoriesOnline. It's way too much fun and you've all been too amazing an audience to leave it so far. However, when creating, the Vengeful Tide, it was never about making money aside from making books whenever I could. It was simply about fun, writing for me and reading for you.

So if you'd like to save the artwork posted here, then I give you all freedom to. It'd be a shame to let some of it go to waste I guess.

That said, I did have some stuff in the October Roadmap that is still being worked on. If you'd like to see that, then you're more than welcome to stick around. Of course, I'll be pausing billing on the 20th so you won't be charged next month while you decide to either leave now or after the rewards have been posted.

Also to those who asked for cities/characters, worry not. I will honor that agreement and they will all still appear when I get to them. Of that, I promise!

Your votes on the next novel have also been saved, and who knows, maybe I'll come back to do this again at some point. However, that's not an option now. In addition, for all of you who have supported me, when Book 3 is released, if you desire, I will send you a free PDF file of the entire book as thanks for your contributions. If you'd like it, then shoot me a message.

I will also be posting the latest chapter here for your viewing pleasure.

Thank you all so much. It's been an amazing experience!

WttW"

[Duplicated from comment I made on Lost Stories on same issue.]

I don't know the story so I don't have specific information, but a bit of research turned up that "The Vengeful Tide" was the title of the first volume of "The Adventures of a Betrayed Captain" by Wordstothewise. The second volume was titled "The Seas of Wrath".

These books were on Amazon but have now been deleted. GoodReads also has the books listed.

I found copies of both volumes on the Z-Lib shadow library, though I can't confirm if the books are downloadable or legitimate. If you use that or another shadow library that would be a good place to look.

Failing that, a Google search found that the story was posted on another story site which I won't name per SOL rules. You should have no trouble finding it. While that copy has also been deleted, an internet archive will probably do better with that site than it would with Patreon.

The way i see it was that its taking too long to move along. Like we finished 2 arks in what 5 years? Honestly every chapter was great, but he wasnt getting anything out of it and then bam life hits him hard or some other reason. The guy had been writing for 4-5 years, not just some trash writing but a really good one, and that's hard to do if you're just only doing it as a hobby. He focused too much on sex and the relationship of his characters that the story is going in a slow pace. 4 years is a long time, stories have finished for less. I hate to say it but, there's too much damn harem members and it just keeps adding up. Im amazed he kept it up for years man, writing those sex scenes must be pretty tiring. Damn, i know a story thats been out for 3 years and the dude is raking it, with a monthly patreon thats 56k dollars. People say money cant buy happiness, true, but it damn solves many problem you have. Rather have no problems and stress in life than be happy. He could have focused on this and made money. I know im kinda ranting here and i apologize for that, im just super pissed that a great story is gone just like that poof. I was really invested in it, wouldnt have been this angry if he gave up early, instead i felt like a part of my life have been taken. I was in that 5 year journey too man.

I could be wrong, don't know, but looking up his name/history, I think your figures are a bit high. Just a bit.

That being said, with minimal effort, I found his story complete to Ch. 51. (It looks complete after skimming a few entries).

If the guy wants it off the net, he wants it off the net, but it wasn't hard to find. If anyone really wanted to find it, they shouldn't have any trouble.
