Forum: Story Discussion and Feedback

Some of my favoite authors

LonelyDad ๐Ÿšซ

I've been reading SOL since some time in the mid-2010s, and happily downloading the ones I liked or that sounded good. I currently have 10k files taking up about 1 GB of disk. [the numbers I posted elsewhere included the ASSTR files I vacuumed before they went away.]
Of all there there are some that are my favorites, in No particular order: Fantasy Lover, Oyter50, Dualwriter, Uncle Jim, Old Man with a pen, and Celtic Bard immediately come to mind. There are others but these are some of the mo prolific. I'm currently rereading the Florida Friends stories for the nth time. I don't know how many time I have read 'Vacation', but today I realized that every chapter covered one day in the story. I finally noticed that each chapter started with 'Day nn.' Duh.
I'm currently retire so have very little to do but read. I will watch an occasional movie, and try to catch the Chiefs football games, but othe than that it is read. I love my Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite.

Check out You Tube for some sometimes interesting videos. Gameplays of Civilization 3 and a few other wargames can be interesting.

Thanks for the recommendations. I've been reading stuff like ASSTR since the 90s and have watched a lot of great writers dissapear. If you'd like to discuss more of your favorites send me a message.

Can I have the files you downloaded?

I can recommend Jacobin to you - really good writing. One of his is Kat Fighter. I think he or she stopped writing a long time ago, and only published 5 or so. And on SOL my favorites were Al Steiner's Aftermath and Tia's Game. Have more I liked, difficult to compare. I have to sort them into general categories.

You might want to consider seeing if you can torrent those somewhere.

I also have been collecting for over 25 years, and most of my collection is really old. Things I got from the BBS days, ASSTR, Nifty, Kristen and others. I also am a regular torrenter, and about once a year offer my updated collection on a few of the sites I visit.

And they are always popular, as a lot of people into stories will quickly grab them. And a lot of the stuff in my collection is likely so old that most would have never seen them.
