Is this something that is allowed?

stitchescl ๐Ÿšซ

I have seen one or two stories started and a chapter or two posted, then the story is on Bookapy, and the updates slow, or stop altogether, I was just wondering if this was SOP?

@stitchescl

then the story is on Bookapy, and the updates slow, or stop altogether,

Define "slow"? It's SOP to post a chapter a week. If the reader doesn't want to wait, they buy the complete story on Bookapy. If they'd rather wait, they eventually get the whole story (amount of time depends on the number of chapters and frequency of posting).

Stop altogether? I don't believe that's allowed. SOL doesn't allow teasers (meaning the only way to read the end is to buy it).

The one I have been following hasn't been updated in almost 2 weeks. I know I should be more patient, but, dammit I want to read the story and I am on a fixed income. (Less than $900/m disability)That is why I come here and read the stories. I don't look at the books on Bookapy, since I know I can't afford them

Have you contacted the author? Once you explain your situation, they may be able to assist. Just a thought.

I did that right after my ex-wife threw me out. Contacted Matt Forbeck, class guy. He sent me his entire Kickstarter collection, which I credit partially with saving my life. I had attempted suicide and was living in an extended stay after my release from the hospital. He was the first person, stranger or friend, to show me real kindness. Since then, I try to limit my requests of that type to times of extreme duress.

Sometimes things happen. There's a lot more going on in authors' lives than posting on SOL. Just be patient.

Nope, sorry, don't believe you... :P

There are authors who regularly updated their current story every year, so waiting a mere two weeks is nothing.

You need to understand that most authors on SoL are retired, some dream of a fixed income of $900/month. Many can only write when the meds are wearing off and before the next dose is administered.

Bear in mind that many male authors here have their own harems, it is the only practical way to ensure female companionship between their ladies dialysis treatments etc.

All of them enjoy reader feedback, all enjoy writing. Both come a poor second to the joy of actually waking each morning knowing who and where they are.

It is ungrateful to bitch about the frequency of posting of a story you get to read for free. Far better to thank the author because you are enjoying their story and hope they live long enough to complete it. Sadly many don't.

Wasn't this discussed recently on the forum? If the complete story is on Bookapy and the author also decides to start posting it on SOL, isn't there a requirement to post the complete story on SOL within a reasonable timeframe to ensure it's not being posted as a teaser?

From the Author Agreement Rule 17A:

Book Sales: Any promotional links or text to sell your complete books are allowed only if they point to our book shop Bookapy.com. Progress must be made at least weekly until the work is complete on Storiesonline. You authorize WLPC to complete the posting on Storiesonline in case you are unable to do it yourself.

However, I'm not sure if that would apply without the promotional link in to Bookapy.com in the text of the SOL story.

But then there's also rule 14:

If you have your own stories site (or stories page on another site) and you post your stories here on Storiesonline too, you give permission to Storiesonline to take necessary action to keep your stories on WLPC's sites up-to-date and in sync with the versions on your own site or other sites at our discretion.

Not sure how far behind a weekly posting schedule it would have to fall before Lazeez would go that far.

The link to Bookapy is in the endnotes and will have been a full 2 weeks on Tues. As for Joyr's comment, which was unreasonably bitchy IMHO, I am not ungrateful, nor was I bitching. I was simply asking whether the rate of posting after advertising the Bookapy listing was allowed. The only reason I added about my situation, was because had I known the story would be delayed because of Bookapy, I wouldn't have started it until it was completely posted. It feels like I am being shamed because I questioned the rules, then to be told I should be grateful. I am grateful to those authors who stick withing the posted rules.

Yes. The recent issue that was discussed on the forum was in regards to posting on the author's OWN website or upon someplace like Patreon that is not directly affiliated with SOL. Most authors that post on Bookapy do have a schedule for when they also post here. It's easily possible to set up advance posting - where as the author, I could upload thirty chapters and set them all to post every week, every two weeks, or every two or three days, even. If my books were complete and available on Bookapy when I first started posting them here, that's what I'd do.

Since they're not, I upload every week, and will continue to do so, even when the book is complete and uploaded to Bookapy. Now - real life (tm) happens. That may have been what the author you're asking about intended to do - but something happened. Computer takes a crap, and not too many people are like me and have three other computers easily available to post from. HDD crash - which is an annoyance, and again, I have three others where everything is backed up (and two USB sticks - no, I'm not paranoid at all about stuff like this, why do you ask?) Or he could have walked in front of a bus.

Hopefully not the latter, but it DOES happen. If the author has made regular posts on his OTHER stories, and this is the only one, give it a little time. Send an email to Laz, maybe he's heard something. Have you emailed the author directly?

There's no such thing as too many backups... unless you can't keep track of them and leave them unverified.

Absolutely.

However it is up to Lazeez to determine what a "reasonable timeframe" is and he might well decide that on a case by case basis.

Given the various reasons for a delay occurring I really can't believe that Lazeez would consider a two week delay cause for ANY action, even a warning.

In the past the summer camp chapters were being posted many months apart whilst more current chapters were available on a paetron site. That is just one example.

The rules make perfect sense. Rushing to enforce them over trivialities does not.
