Clitoride nominations question

StarFleet Carl ๐Ÿšซ

Considering the minor detail that I just got the notice this morning that they're open - how exactly are there stories with more than 60 'nominations' in less than an hour, while other, excellent stories (Variations on a Theme) have 2?

Lazeez Jiddan (Webmaster)

@StarFleet Carl

Nominations for the awards are open from May 1st all the way to the end of February. Voting is open from March 1st to April 30th.

So a story nominated in May may accumulate more nominations over the months. I promote the awards on SOL for two months usually to make sure everybody is aware. I can't keep promoting the awards on SOL year round.

I can't keep promoting the awards on SOL year round.

You're forgiven. :)

I actually didn't realize that regarding the award nomination period, I've only ever seen the notice when it shows up on SOL, so I honestly thought it was from the middle of January to the end of February.

You're not the only one learning new things about the awards. I've never noticed before that it was cross-platform, and that some of the nominee story links take you to non-SOL sites.

Moderation of nominations seems to take a long time, as in over 24 hours.

Moderation of nominations seems to take a long time, as in over 24 hours.

I was working on accelerating the process. It's a tedious process.

I managed it for the story nominations and now they've all been moderated (over a hundred nominations).

I'm working on doing the same for author nominations.

We'll get there.

Please not. It's just cheap and meaningless without the words from a 'normal' comment. Leave that crap for the dumbed down big social media.

Social media is just a tool, and like every tool, it's usefulness depends on the wielder. It's best not to decry something just because you fail to use it meaningfully.

In essence yes, but the current big social media are more like criminal organizations and their usefulness is debatable at the very least.

and their usefulness is debatable at the very least.

Again, I reiterate it's usefulness depends on your ability to use it. If you fail to use it meaningfully, I suggest you look to blame someone other than the creators of the media.

As a disclaimer, I met my partner of the last ten years through Fbook, it's a very useful medium in which to keep in contact with friends and family on the other side of the planet and even with the ones on the same continent. On more than one occasion I have gained useful employment through it.

It is also a helpful medium in which to start/join specialist medical groups to discuss treatment options and provide moral support/counselling to those struggling with their own conditions and who otherwise might not have access to help due to their location or rarity of their condition.

It is also a very helpful medium if you are struggling with a technical issue at work and you happen to be in a related group of like minded professionals who can use their own hard gained experience to help you if that advice/experience is lacking in your own workplace.

Saying that social media is akin to criminal organisations and are debatable in their usefulness, is like standing in front of Picasso and saying paintbrushes are useless or saying to Shakespeare that the pen is useless (other painters/writers are available) They will, unsurprisingly disagree with you.

If you can't use a paintbrush/pen/Facebook, then that's not the pen/paintbrush/Facebook's fault, that's all yours.

It has nothing to do with ability to use it. Personally I think it's dumb to look through pink glasses and only see what you want to see and disregard the damage these media have done and still do.

For that it is useful, and that is the one and only part that actually is useful although there are plenty of other ways to keep in contact. I don't think it's worth it if you have to take all the other crap along with it

It is also a helpful medium in which to start/join specialist medical groups ...

Yes helpful but the reliability is very low. There were specialty sites and groups long before social media groups. Trustworthiness from MSM is very questionable seeing all the other fake news that goes around it.

Saying that social media is akin to criminal organisations and are debatable in their usefulness, is like standing in front of Picasso and saying paintbrushes are useless or saying to Shakespeare that the pen is useless (other painters/writers are available) They will, unsurprisingly disagree with you.

That's a cheap and totally unrelated comparison. Criminal behavior is already proven for privacy violations and deliberately allowing fake news for political agendas. You can't get as big as Meta, Google, Amazon, etc. without violating ethical and legal rules.

If you can't use a paintbrush/pen/Facebook, then that's not the pen/paintbrush/Facebook's fault, that's all yours.

I can't paint and I can't write (books) but if I wanted to I can use facebook. I don't need it and I don't want it but they still think it's allowed to invade MY privacy.

Your opinion. If you want to go to suspect pages on Facebook and believe what's written there, then that's the prerogative of the user. However, that could also be said of the internet in general, not just social media.

Yes helpful but the reliability is very low

Depends on the group. The ones I am in are closed groups and the very nature of the subject matter means 'Walts' are quickly found out and booted.

The medical ones my partner are on are also technical, very helpful for those that need. And again, those Walting are quickly and easily spotted and removed.

As I said, your failure to use the sites to their full potential is your failing, not that of the sites.

Yes helpful but the reliability is very low.

Yet again, factually incorrect, and shows a lack of understanding on the matter and your inexperience of using specialist technical groups. Where, as I have said and will continue to say, Walts and fantasists are easily rooted out.

That's a cheap and totally unrelated comparison

How? Because it was effective and difficult to argue with? So therefore it must be 'fake news'? My point, was that Social media is just a tool, like the pen, the paintbrush the hammer etc, etc, and like any tool, the results depends on the user, if you can't use it, that doesn't make it any less effective for those who can. Like I said, if you can't use it, don't stand in front of individuals who can, decrying how useless it is. Which is basically what you did.

I can't paint and I can't write (books) but if I wanted to I can use facebook.

I thought the whole point of this discussion was because you can't use Facebook? Okay, you can't write or paint, but you can still use a paint brush and a pen. You just can't do anything meaningful with them. Like Facebook.

I don't need it and I don't want it but they still think it's allowed to invade MY privacy.

Then don't use it. No one is forcing you to use it. If you don't use it, it can't invade your privacy.

You know, there is a similarity between social media and gun ownership (yes I'm really going there) A gun is just a tool, the usage of which is totally at the wielders discretion. It can be used for good, it can be used for bad, it can be used for sport and pleasure, it can be used to make friends, it can be used to make enemies. It can be wielded by the competent, it can be wielded by the incompetent. Are the makers of guns above reproach? Of course they are not, they exist to fulfil a need and sell as much product to make as much money as possible; Just like the creators and owners of social media Do gun makers invade your privacy? Of course they do. They keep records of who they sell to, use the excuse of mailing lists with special offers to keep tabs on where you live, what you buy, where you shoot. Do you really think the NRA doesn't sell your personal data to weapons manufacturers? Does this make weapons bad? Does this make their usefulness debatable? After all, the argument of needing a gun to defend against a gun, is just an ouroboros.

I don't doubt there's a fun side to it but you just have to follow the news with the continuing investigations, law suits, and Suckerbob's attitude to know there's another side that's very wrong.
We're not going to agree on anything about this so I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

If you give an infinite number of morons unlimited access to social media...

...they won't write Shakespeare.

But given enough time, they might give the NSA computers a fatal aneurysm.

Obviously. BLM activists etc would get them banned because Shakespeare wasn't aware of our political correctness rules hundreds of years in the future.

Um, now those nominations I've clicked on show the red circle with the bar, but clicking on the green plus sign still doesn't do anything for anyone else that I want to nominate.

a href="javascript:doCmd('getNomData','addMine',['51005','zwiBfJ','5']);" class="plus" title="Add your nomination"> /a

Just as an example. I have NO clue what that means, but that's the element I see.

It may be a javascript issue. While viewing the nominees, hold down the shift key on your keyboad and click the reload button a couple of times. That forces your browser to fetch the JS files from the server.
