So, I need to know if calves for calf roping competitions in rodeos have to be trained. Would help to know something about the process - when trained (if they are), age at sale, how long they can be used for competitions, etc. Search engines haven't been particularly helpful, but maybe that's just my search skills! I've posted for answers on Reddit, but it made me curious. Anyone got great tips, examples, or, even better, funny stories about doing research?

If the same calf is used enough times, the critter remembers what will be happening, and just gives up, just waits for Cowboy to arrive with the rope!

I would recommend rather than trying to contact other authors, you try to contact someone active in the pro rodeo circuit. I provided a couple of links up thread.
I think it would be much more productive for you to talk to someone who has actually competed than relying second hand on another author's research.
