If the first story ever posted on SOL were numbered '1' and the second '2' etc, I would imagine the total has already passed 50,000.
There are pouty authors who removed their stories because they didn't get straight 10s, ambitious authors who wanted to give exclusive rights to Amazon, and I believe Lazeez has been pruning underage stories which had no other literary merit.

You forgot the stories that got removed for stories for 'religious reasons'.
I agree that SOL has likely passed the 50,000 story posted some time ago. Lazeez is the most likely person to know when that mark was hit.

That's a new one on me. Since some of the stories on SOL are religiously quite provocative, I'm having trouble with the justification.
I also omitted authors who decided their stories were more properly suited to Finestories and Scifistories (and the higher scores).

Not stories removed by Lazeez, stories the author had asked to be taken down because the author got religion or married someone with strong religious views.
Dominions Son has 'religious reasons' I mentioned above correct. In some cases I believe the author was getting serious in a relationship with a person with strong religious views.

Way over. There were nearly 45k stories posted before the database restructure when story ID reuse started, so the 50000th posting will (probably) have a story ID in the high 14000's, posted around Christmas 2016.
The 50000th story current on the site (which we've not reached yet) is a shifty thing - if there are a series of stories deletions interleaved with new postings, there could be a half-dozen stories that could claim to be the 50000th on the site. Or, a different way of counting it would be to list the current stories in order of posting, and pick #50000 - but that will change every time an older story is deleted, so again it's not a sensible measure.

The number displayed on the site's home page is the number of stories currently in the database.
I started keeping track of the stories deleted back at the end of 2008. The current count in the 'deleted stories' table is 6754, from 11, 2008 to the present day.
So yes, there have been way more than 50,000 stories posted on the site already, but that number doesn't matter. What matters is what's in the database and that number has yet to reach 50,000.
Although if we count like every other story site, where a chapter is a 'story', then storiesonline has 230,000+ 'stories'.

That's way over the top, but some SOL 'story containers' do contain more than one discrete books so your story count could be considered an underestimate.

Yep, just one example: Number 7's Second Chance, 18 books that counts as one because they are posted that way.

I am close to amazed how good a story named Mow Cop is. Nothing to do with farming (Mow) or police (Cop). Very English. Somehow appropriate since SOL is Canadian and kinda, sorta English. Nations separated by a single language. Not sure speaking a married language would be helpful. I strongly recommend you read it.
Most of Telephoneman's stories are Good Stuff.
It is difficult to look at their scores. Only two have numbers you can read. Mow Cop has a 7.54. For the Fallen is short poem with an 8.72 score. The second story through the 15th on the list come before Mow Cop, so likely their scores are higher than 7.54. A half dozen are reviewed, mostly favorably, but one gets a 1 from its reviewer. I can't recall Management letting that kind of review get posted.
A few of the stories posted are very short poems. Despite the high score for one of them, For the Fallen, I don't usually recommend poetry, particularly very short items.
Well that's weird — there used to be visible scores. Wonder if the author turned off voting? Of the ones I've read, A Potter's Tale stands out in memory. I can point to others I've liked, if you'd like.

My guess is that the people who actually read the poems also like them, so they would rate them more highly than I would.
