Bookapy Question

StarFleet Carl ๐Ÿšซ

For Kindle, are you guys uploading MOBI or AZW3 format? I had Calibre save the file in both, I was just wondering.

I used Sigil to create the actual EPUB file. It's gotten a lot easier to use than last time I created files with it. I didn't trust the EPUB Export option from Libre Office to actually create the TOC that I needed.

I don't think there's a publicly available builder for AZW3.

Calibre does.

You can use Calibre to convert to any file type used by Bookapy.

Mobi on Bookapy

I create the Mobi with Calibre. In Calibre, I have to override the justification to left. For Mobi, it defaults to justified even if the Word doc I input to Calibre has it as left.

According to Lazeez, the only benefit to AZW is the ability to lock (DRM) the file so no more than a single reader can access it. Thus he's publicly stated that MOBI is the ONLY Amazon format that Bookapy will accept.

For Mobi, it defaults to justified even if the Word doc I input to Calibre has it as left.

Despite Lazeez's misgivings (he hates justified text, I typically justify everything, and have never had any trouble getting it to accept it.

As usual, the key is to define the behavior in each paragraphs CSS Style Definitions, which I believe you're already doing, so there must be some other conflict that's inhibiting the justification.

The Calibre default for Mobi is justified paragraphs (not for Epub, only Mobi). Calibre overrides my left justification unless I specifically tell it to use left justification when I do the convert to Mobi.

Lazeez doesn't like justified text because when you read it on a small device like a phone there's too much white space between words. I agree so I now left justify my novels.

Personally I find reading fully justified text to be much harder on my eyes. Fortunately, this can be over-ridden in the reader's settings.

It generally takes a while to figure out all the 'proper' settings for each Calibre document type (I'm still wrestling with the pdf settings, preferring to submit the print pdf version, with its user-defined settings instead of the pdf defaults).

But the settings for SOL are essentially a non-issue, since SOL strips ALL formatting from submissions before postings anyway.

The question pertained to Bookapy.

And I care about the settings for SOL why?

As the title of my post says - I'm inquiring about Bookapy. For SOL, I simply go - here's the HTML file that I save as, have a nice day.

And I've found my answers - I need to both redo the MOBI file for Bookapy in Calibre, and then re-upload things after some editing on Sigil.

When you do the Convert with Calibre, select Mobi as the output and then click on Look & Feel (on the left) and then Text and then Text Justification and choose Left Justified.

In Calibre, I have to override the justification to left.

I thought I'd done everything correctly, so it's the software itself. That's what I wondered. I need to do some more editing in Sigil.

Calibre does a good version of both MOBI and AZW3 formats, but I make and upload MOBI formats as they can be read by the newer and older Kindle devices while many of the older Kindle devices can't read the AZW3 format. I asked Lazeez when I started to upload for Kindle and he advised the MOBI for that reason.
