Does anyone have any news about Vanessa Ravencroft, she has not posted anything since October?

@gmpartsdavid

She posted to her Patreon in early November. I don't see any status updates since then, either on Patreon or on Facebook.

Sadly, it's been announced on the GalNet wiki that Vanessa passed away last month.

It is with sadness that I announce Vanessa's passing

I've worked with Vanessa for quite some time now and she was an absolutely fantastic person. It's with a heavy heart that I have to pass on the news of her death. She passed late last month and within the comfort of her own home. She loved writing and was always thinking about where to go next within her stories and universe. I truly believe that this universe kept her going and gave her the energy to keep fighting.

Sad thing! LOVE her Eric Olafson series and Green Hell!

RIP Vanessa...

What a loss. She had so much creativity.

Any chance of an author or two picking up where she left off and continuing her wonderful stories?

Add much as I would love to keep the EO and RM stories alive, I don't think anyone else can do them justice. Vanessa had a unique style. Her worlds are huge. It's very hard to fill her shoes.

Without prior permission the answer is no.

Unless an author with no morals or respect for copyright law writes a continuation and finds a site with a similar lack morals and disrespect for the law to post it to.

@ringill98

Thank you.

You mean, say, a site like SOL?

As far as I'm aware Lazeez is quick to delete posted stories that break copyright and are reported.

The only stories posted by someone other than the author and copyright owner are those posts by Lazeez himself, most way back when he 'seeded' the site with mostly 'novel / pocketbook' stories.

As a site owner who includes copyright notices on every story and most site pages, how hypocritical would it be to simultaneously require respect of his copyright whilst ignoring others disrespecting other authors copyright?

I'm not suggesting Lazeez is perfect, he is however, in my personal view, a very, very long way from being morally bankrupt.

Unless you know different and care to point out instances?

he only posted stories that are in the public domain as they'd fallen out of copyright. He may still do that on occasion.

There are a couple of people who have authority from the original copyright owners to work on their stories and the ones I know of Lazeez has verified it was approved.

There are a couple of "stories" by Benjamin Franklin. Posted in later 2010.

The Author Agreement for posting here - Number 16 - if you post something that is incomplete, and then you vanish, Laz COULD allow someone else to finish it.

I believe that's happened a couple of times, but nothing where someone continued a series, merely finishing off something left incomplete.

16 If you don't log into Storiesonline for more than 5 years, your stories will get moved into the archives which are accessible to premier members only. We may give interested authors permission to finish any work you left unfinished.
