Authors Favorites

OK, I wanted to mention this, because I wonder if I was the only one that never knew about this feature.

Go to the "Authors/Editors" tab, and one of the selections is "Edit Favorite Stories List". And in this, you can list your favorite stories in here, and why you think they are worth reading (like a mini review). And it adds a tab onto your profile, so other people can see what kinds of stories you like, and why.

After over 18 years, and I just discovered something new that I never knew about before. And I am going to be having fun adding stories to it, and hopefully help others find some of the same stories I enjoy.

I just wish I had known about this ability years ago.

Had it since 2007.

It's not so obscure. At the end of every story, authors get a 'Favourite Story' link to add it to their favourites list. It's not the same as the 'Bookmark' link a line below that.

Not surprised. But I did look through the list of authors, and only a small percentage seem to use it. Which is why I thought I would make a mention, so others can use it themselves. It is a special feature I think, and I wish I had known of it long ago.

I am glad you have started to utilize the Authors Favorites. It has long been one of my primary ways of finding the great stories on this site. When I published my first story a few months ago, adding a few of my favorite authors to my own list was a priority. I'm sure I missed a bunch but I'll revisit the list when I'm done with my next book.

On the story stats page, there's a column with AF. It shows how many authors have favorited the story, and if you click on the number shown, it'll tell you who did it, and what they wrote.

Unfortunately readers don't have access to that information, so looking at an author's stories page(s) provides no clue as to how many other authors found any stories particularly worthy.

Well, the author's stats page provides information to the author for his stories.

If the reader goes to an author's page, he can click on "favorites" to see what are the favorite stories for that author.

If the reader goes to an author's page, he can click on "favorites" to see what are the favorite stories for that author.

But if I want to know which of Switch Blayde's stories have been author favorited, I have to visit every other authors' pages to find out.

Or I could ask you directly and trust you to tell me the truth ;-)

I guess I see it being different perspectives.

As an author, I want to know which of my stories are favorites of other authors.

As a reader, if I like an author, I want to know which are his favorite stories because maybe I'd like them too.

Yes, but then you really only need to check the pages of authors you like, because the opinion of authors you hate should be meaningless to you.

@bk69

No. If au hors I hate like a story, there's a good chance I'll hate it. So the authors I hate can help me eliminate stories. Exclusionary searching is more useful than inclusive searching.

So you don't think it would be useful.

But that's not a reason to deny the information to those who think it would be useful.

"Not for me; not for anyone" is an all-to-common philosophy.

Pretty much my belief.

Many in here I only known from their names in the forum, not any stories they may have written. But I already know that many I would not read, just from their forum posts.

Me, I know I am rather "vanilla". I like softer more romantic stories most times, but can enjoy some edgier ones on occasion. If somebody writes say nothing but incest stories, or all slut wife stories, or all fanfic stories, then odds are I am not going to enjoy the stories they themselves like best.

But for authors I have found I enjoy reading, odds are if I know their favorites I can find others I would like. And knowing other authors like my works, then odds are I might like theirs as well. And seeing me on their list will cause me to look at what they wrote in return.

Your strategy probably works well in finding material for you to read. I too have genres and tropes I prefer to others. However I place a higher importance on stories being fresh and original, where the author has stepped away from the norms. Finding them is not easy, but when I see an unfamiliar author recommended on the forum I make a note to check them out.

Say, for the sake of example, the author is StangStar06. Lots of stories - which ones should I try first? I'd like to know which have been favorited by other authors, not which have the highest scores because they're the most mainstream.

Easier than you think:
rache
Rachael Ross
T.S. Severe
Kylie X
God of Porn
(I know I'm forgetting at least a dozen other pen names. often one-off's based on the name of the MC)

Note that the story content is unlikely to be comfortable. The writing, however, is outstanding.

bk69 ๐Ÿšซ

@awnlee jawking

Which is really meaningless, because without knowing whose opinion I'm being given, the opinion is useless. If justplainbob, Stultus, stangstar, etc all love a story, chances are I'm gonna hate it. But there's probably a couple dozen such writers. So if I see a story is the favorite of twenty or so, it could be twenty people I disagree completely with, or twenty people who share my tastes. I have no way of knowing. That makes a simple count useless.

I disagree. If you look at the top 50, it's only when you get to the lower reaches that you start to find stories with a more restricted audience. I suspect authors are more discerning than the majority of readers and a count of how many times a story has been favorited by other authors would be more meaningful than the story score or even the number of story reviews.

AJ

@awnlee jawking

Number of stor reviews is meaningless too. The thing about reviews is that you can learn whether a reviewer has opinions that accurately predict yours (either that you can locate stories you will love or hate reliably using those reviews) although if you haven't read any of the stories that reviewer reviewed, the reviews won't be much use usually.

Which is one of the reasons I decided to bring this up. This way we can know, and tag stories we like. I only have 2 stories tagged, and it is kind of interesting reading what was said.
