HTML, plain text and format previewer

I've been on this site for a short time, and I've been happy to submit plain text with only italics and boldface markup (i.e., the underscores and asterisks).

Recently I wanted to have a few single-line breaks but just a single paragraph break doesn't show up in the format previewer. I did experiment with a {br} tag and that did work in the previewer. However, there is a warning on the previewer page (the software seems to be nine years old!) that a lot of HTML may not appear on the site itself.

I've experimented with an HTLM page, but I can't get one to work in the previewer (all the tags appear as written). In any case, it's not clear from the formatting guide that the {br} tag is supported.

I'm not trying to do anything that complicated, and it seems that other sites have more modern software that would easily handle this.

There are directions which tells you precisely what HTML you can use and what you cannot.
Warning 1: Back when I read those directions, they said that what went inside a [bloc] . . . [/block] section showed up in italics. My experience is that it show up in TT -- it looks like it was typewritten.
Warning 2: You can put in tables, but that stretches the ability of the software.

Yes, I did read the formatting guide and I didn't see the {br} tag supported. Yet, oddly, it did work in preview mode although I didn't think it would.

I'll just have to wing it. The info on the format previewer page suggests not to rely on the accuracy of the preview software.

You haven't read the whole formatting guide. It's near the bottom. Look for 'Line Break'.

You are correct, I did miss that. Thank you.

I have not reread the formatting guide but my word processor will format both ways from ODT to HTML and back flawlessly. SOL recognizes it as well from my submissions.
