Is there a way to contact commenters?

oldegrump ๐Ÿšซ

I have a constant negative commenter that I would like to contact. When I see the comments, I do not see a way to send a message.

I would like this individual to assist me in a collaboration story. she could give me an inside into the female side of my stories.

The only way at present is to put your request in a comment of your own and hope she replies. (Hopefully she replies by message not comment so you can discuss things with privacy.)

If it's the person I believe you're talking about, she used to edit. You might find her in the editors list.

The newer SOL comment feature is fairly limited, but here on the forum, if you want to send a private message, you simply click on the up-arrow to the right (between the thumbs-down and letter icons). I wish we had a similar feature in the comments section, but alas, it wasn't designed that way.

The letter icon is used to write a private message, NOT the up arrow.

NOT the up arrow

What is the up-arrow for? Unlike the others, when you hover the mouse over it nothing displays.

ETA: I just tried it (holding my breath). It takes you to the top โ€” the first post.

I pressed on one, it took my screen to the top, the first post. So you don't have to scroll up, you can just jump.

How about a new button that will take you far, far away from hopeless deadlocked Forum arguments (potentially to a random story, where you can ignore the Forum for a short period, at least)?

Sorry 'bout that, as 'upvoting' problematic messages doesn't help anyone (other than the original commenter, which sees it as validation for their viewpoint).

I tend to respond to negative comments in 1 of 3 ways.

First, if they are rude I just delete the comment. I enjoy reading comments on my writings, both good and bad. And I have even been known to make changes in a story in progress based upon feedback. But rudeness? Get outta here.

Next, is to politely thank them, then continue as I always have.

Finally, I can get snarky. Had a guy completely miss something about race I had been talking about (essentially that there is no reason in a fantasy game to assume all races like dwarves and elves are Caucasian), and tried to imply I was "woke". I simply pointed out to him that he completely missed the point of what I was saying, and he should improve his reading comprehension.

Oh, and that I was nominating him for the "Adolph Hitler Seal of Approval". I hope he reads through the segments again and really understands what I was trying to say, and not try to throw things like modern politics where it does not belong (the story is set in 1986).

But in my experience, most of the negative comments seem to come from people who do not write anyways. They sit comfortable in the sidelines casting darts, but never make the attempt to create themselves.
