A horde of hoarders!

Harold Wilson 🚫

After reading the eleventy-third iteration of this mistake in a KU story, I feel the need to vent.

A 'hoard' is a collection or supply of something. A dragon has a hoard of treasure.

- Mr. Johnson has a hoard of toilet paper in his basement.

To 'hoard' is to collect a supply of something.

- Mr. Johnson has been hoarding toilet paper for years.

A 'horde' is a large group or crowd; a swarm.

- Mr. Johnson's toilet paper was eaten by a horde of rats.

- When the store opened, a horde of hoarders raced to the toilet paper aisle, only to find the shelves empty.

Alas, as most authors (and editors too) tend to read what was intended, rather than the actual words on the page, it's an easily overlooked typo that's incredibly tough for most to spot.

If you can, sent them an email alerting them to the obvious typo and hopefully, with the next publication run, they'll eventually correct (if it ever warrants a preprint), though it certainly won't help with the current books.

With Kindle stories, I'm given to understand they could just push out an update. Although I'm not sure what limits/restrictions Amazon has in place on that.

You're correct. With Kindle publications, you can insert corrections within a couple days (the typical review of uploaded content typically takes about a day).

However, finding an author's email is a battle in itself, and few ever bother looking for any new messages concerning their publications.
