Start with answering yourself "Why do I want to increase my internet presence?" and "What do I want to achieve?".
Answering that alone should give you an idea what and where to post stories, start a blog, or participate in online communities. You might even find out you have to stop an activity or another to achieve what you want.
To increase your presents have your birthday and Christmas celebrations more often. And make more and richer friends.
More than anything else, it's a matter of putting up internet content. More stories, more blogs, and the more frequent the better. However, this typically results in many authors no longer writing anything besides blog and photo posts. So you'll need to decide whether you'd rather be a perpetual blogger, or a struggling, unsuccessful author like the rest of us?
That said, you can post more frequent teasers about upcoming books, as well as cross-posting. Say (if you're self-published) posting cover and book images on picture sites to attract additional readers. Basically, any way you can think of flagging a few new readers, you try. I also do fairly frequent book-giveaways (each time I publish a new book). Those work pretty well, while paid marketing hasn't panned out well at all! :(
