After a recent discussion on the trend of stories on SOL, I was curious to see what stories were like in the beginning and came upon a story that was posted on 7/14/1999.

Nothing out of the ordinary there, until I noticed it was updated on 9/9/2018 and is "in progress." Updated almost 9 years after the initial posting and still in progress.

FWIW, there are about 19 years in the period you describe.

I had a period of rewriting and deleting a chapter/story so much it was an 11 year gap between 2 and 3 so I get it.

My saving grace is that each chapter is self-contained and complete as opposed to super cliffhanger.

For many real world reasons, a story of mine on another site went 13 years between updates.
