Not sure if I've just been blind or not but I've noticed green circles next to stories lately. Hovered the cursor over it and nothing comes up. Any idea what they are?

The circle show if you've read the story or not
Yes, but I think they rely on your browser remembering what you have read, and that means to work reliably you need to always access SOL from the same computer, and possibly always login whenever you access the site too.
No, the story green dots don't rely on the browser. Only the forum's green dots do.
Although you can click the sync to server to save the green dots and later sync them back to a new device.
Your account has been upgraded to premier level because you've reached the qualifying volume of text/score on the site.
The green dots, the flags, the download indicators, the big 'zip', 'txt', 'kindle', 'epub' buttons to download the whole stories are the most apparent of the premier level features.
Search is now fully accessible as well as the library for keeping track of stuff.
Check the 'My Account' page as now on its bottom there are new links to new preferences that you can set to make the site more useable.
I think the green dots age out after a considerable period, perhaps several years. I have had green dots show up on stories I know I read, years ago. Probably on different computers. Maybe after I spent the money to go premier. It is convenient to have a way of telling if I read the story before or not.
The dots don't age out.
Premier data (dots, library, etc...) gets wiped if the membership is expired for more than six months.
Lazeez, When did you start keeping the data used to produce the green dots on stories?
I had considered that richardshagrin might have been noticing stories he either hadn't read since that date or he had read those stories prior to being a premier member.
Yes the loss of the green dot information probably was about 2012. Stories I read prior to then turn up with green dots now that I am a premier member. It has only been a few years that I have had the money to buy premier status. It helps I sold my house in September 2016 and now am able to afford things I couldn't, living on Social Security.

Ah, the luxury of being able to afford all the green dots you can dream of! 'D
