Rick is now in possession of a certain cup? Which he, of course, just shrugs off! :O
Haaaaaahahahahahaha! I love it!
The only way you could make this story better is posting more frequently. I'm still trying to figure out who Alice is. :)

Rick is now in possession of a certain cup?
Which, from it's description is likely to be a damn good fake artefact from the 12 the or 13 th century when they were a thriving industry. From the story
There on a built-in purple velvet support lay a simple clay cup. There was no way to know how old it was. It could be thousands of years old for all we knew. The only hint was a maker's mark on the bottom with Hebrew inscription for YHWH,
To start with it would not have been inscribed with YHWH if real, because that link wouldn't have been made when the cup was made if really used by JC. Second, if it really was a cup used by JC it wouldn't be clay. The passover cup would have been silver or gold, which was common for the ceremonial cups in those days, or if it was his personal cup it would have been wood. Also purple was reserved solely for royalty at that time and not applied to JC.
But it do make for a nice distraction in the story.

We'll just have to wait and see if it plays a further role in the story, or if it's another of Banadin's throwaways for grins & giggles.

Either way is good. Even if he plays it out as being a fake.
The business on Holy Relics was so good in the 11 th to 13 th centuries that someone added up all the pieces of the True Cross that were listed as being at different places in Europe and they worked out if they were all real it must have stood about 50 feet tall and been over a ton in weight.
You really need to read Banadin's blog....
which has a an entry about a person, cups, and a show I've never heard off and went up since the posts above the one above this.
a show I've never heard of
Antiques Roadshow The original, UK, version. Started in 1979, still going strong.
I've never heard off
It's been showing in Australia for decades. It must be a big rock ...

The US has it's own version, runs on PBS affiliates.

Depends on where it was shown. There's been so much crap on the free-to-air for many decades I've not watched it for decades, and only ever subscribed to a few satellite channels since then.
Even if the show was being shown here, that doesn't mean the US version was shown or that item was ever mentioned.
In the 1950,s Peter Pan peanut butter was put into jars which could be used as drinking glasses. As a kid I didn't know any other type. They had Tinker Bell, Captain Hook and others on them.
Put the clay cup in as as a diversion but got so many emails I had to do something.

I thought your explanation was hilarious - like I find the story itself. I look forward to every new chapter. :D
