Bogus Postings to alt.binaries.e-book

Vincent Berg ๐Ÿšซ

This was posted in the "Story Discussions" Forum, but each individual author will want to central clearing house to follow efforts to track down the efforts.

While many who ONLY post to SOL may not care, as long as they're properly credited, others (like myself, who sells the works on the open market) don't appreciate when someone gives the works away for free!

Somebody with the poster name 'Malathay' has just posted 60 posts in alt.binaries.e-book with a few hundred XXX stories from all over the web, including Nick Scipios Summer Camp series and stories under the Dorsai name.

He says he has collected them from various sites and as far as he knows they are free to be posted there as they are not for his financial gain.
EDIT - he has acknowledged the original authors names

If anyone has easy access to the alt.binaries.e-book site let the rest of us know exactly what's posted there. I gave up tracking those ancient sites ages ago, and barely remember how to access them. If my stories aren't posted there, I'd rather not reopen that particular Pandora's Box.

Found no mention of Crumbly or Vincent in any of the files posted.

If you can, please check for Ernest Bywater and Cazna Rochester - I can't get Google Groups to admit the e-books newsgroup exists, let alone check it.

Google Groups isn't an group email administrator, instead it's mostly a moderated forum facility.

May be so, but they claim they carry the newsgroups and do have a bunch of the general newsgroups available. But it's a major pain trying to find anything on it. Years ago when i first used GG, due to the SoL DG, I found ti easy to find a certain newsgroups like alt.aus.politics and calahans bar - but the changes they made make it impossible to find anything now.

Google groups carry text only groups. They don't support any of the binaries groups.

Thanks. Now I'll leave the rest of you to fight over whether you want someone properly crediting your work on alternate sites or not.

Several sites carry the alt.binaries groups, but I think they all cost money. Look it up if you want/need to see things there.

Ernest is like me. Back in the day, before the inventions of the World Wide Web, we both frequented text groups of various kinds. However, since then, we've rarely glanced back, especially once the newer tools proved much more reliable. It's not that we can't look for ourselves, it's just that we have little desire to relearn an abandoned technology just to check to see if our names are mentioned.

Not so much not relearning the old tech, I still know it. Problem is the new tech isn't set to work well with the old tech. If I st up an old XP system with my Forte Agent I'd have no issues, but Agent doesn't run on Linux, and the old GG that worked well has been well screwed over so the new GG is almost incomprehensible. and doesn't fully work.

It's not just GG. I use Thunderbird, Mozilla's email program, but when each of these tools switched over to html formatting, they abandoned all of the old text-only form support. Thus I can't access the old sites either, although I'd love to.
