Tips for SOL and Writing

G Younger 🚫
Updated:

What I like about SOL is it gives us an opportunity to learn from each other. I would suspect that most of us are learning our craft like I am. I thought it was time again to share our best tips with other writers. I will start with two.

Tags: These are important to help readers decide if they want to take the time and open your story. Too many, and you start to give them reasons not to read it. I would suggest when you hit about ten to stop. I rarely read a story with 20+ tags.

Paragraphs: What I am talking about are LONG paragraphs. I would suggest you break them up. When reading a long paragraph it is sometimes hard to follow because of how our eyes work. We can lose our place. When I see a story like this I tend to skim to the next paragraph.

Or skip your story (squicks, etc.).

Oh yes, tags help me avoid squicks. Of course I'm sure they keep people away from some of my writing. And I'm just a beginner at writing.

Here is a new Tip:

Story Description: Send it to your editors before you post it ... I learned that one the hard way.
