Forum: Author Hangout

(I _started_ by scanning the Author Hangout for posts on pictures. Then, I used the Forum search function for 'imbedded pictures'. Got no results. So, I'm starting a new thread.)

I want to re-post my Missile 1 & 2, but this time I want to imbed pictures that show the ASCII graphics since they simply don't work here. I know that many authors have done it so it can't be too hard, but is there a step-by-step guide anywhere on how to do it? I'm willing to RTFM, if I can find it. Do pictures have to have a particular name format? What is the exact syntax required in the story to get the desired picture to show up where you want it?
The "Posting Guide" merely says no children, no this that or the other thing, less than 1MB, and only .jpg, .png, .gif and .webp. I'd rather not blunder through the posting wizard, get it up for readers, and find obscure error messages in the middle of the text. Where are the actual instructions?

Note that the FAQ, under the "Author" section, has instructions. Among other things, it says:

If you're submitting plain text, then you need to include something to give the moderators a hint where the images should be. For example:

Chapter 2

[[[ image IMG_001.jpg goes here centered ]]]

So, if that's the best way, I can do it and give the moderators more work. I'd rather learn what codes I can type into my submission text to automate it.
