The late, great Graybyrd taught me that it was MY job to write, not him; he was there to HELP me write better, but not to do the actual writing.
Then, there was the old "know what you write, and write what you know..." (Not necessarily his, but accurate...) That's why my first few stories are heavy on Emergency Medical Services scenes; most of those scenes are based on calls I was on as a paramedic.
