Anyone notice the new SciFi scores?

Vincent Berg ๐Ÿšซ

Scores dropped substantially last night (by 3 points, across the board), so it looks like Lazeez has adjusted the scores like he did on SOL and FS. I'm wondering how much other stories scores have varied (i.e. whether they're all relatively the same or if some got penalized more than others).

yeah. about as much fun as being tossed an anvil while trying to swim laps. Looking at the 'stats' I see as many "10's" as all others combined, with the lowest scores listed being a couple of 7's. So the "adjusted" score--naturally--comes out at 7.64.

Yes, yesterday the number of votes in the database reached high enough for the weighing system to kick in.

It's not just the Sci-Fi scores that do weird things. I am back after an absence and celebrated with a new story, and naturally I am keeping an eye on the scores more than I would normally.

At the moment the story has what appears to be one or two votes for '6'; '7' and '9' are level pegging with '10' just slightly behind; Out in front by a country mile (almost three times the votes of '7' and '9')are the votes for '8'.

There are no (at the moment of writing) votes for 5 or below.

So, law of averages would state a combined score of at least '8' and since the rest of the votes are weighted for '9' and '10' you would expect a score of around 8.5

You would think.

What I have is a score of 7.15

Which is...perplexing... I think I remember reading somewhere that the scores are also adjusted in comparison to what else was written at the time? Is this what has happened here Lazeez? If that's the case, when in the month are all the rubbish stories written.... ;)

At the moment, many of the stories being uploaded are the 'classic' sci-fi novels whose copyright has expired, though the competition might be a bit unfair for the typical amateur author. Also, as noted earlier in the thread, your story adjustment only kicks in after a certain number of votes, so you'll have a high score, and suddenly it'll drop sharply, not because of anything in the story, or any negative votes by readers, but simply because you crossed that magical threshold. Those are all the dilemmas of posting to a site without many readers yet.

all the time, but fewer are getting posted now. Anyway, that's what I think the situation is.

I turned the scoring off on finestories. I felt as if everyone there thought all of my stories were trash. It has helped as I was about to evacuate all my stories from there

Your adjusted score of 7.1 is consistent with the median score for your story being about 8.6, and the median score of all stories within the period being about 7.5.
The adjustment reflects that fact that the "rubbish stories" receive few votes.
