Cumming vs Comming

lustysnake ๐Ÿšซ

When we mean that a man ejaculates, I have noticed that some people use the term cumming and other used comming.

From what I find, cum = sperm and come = orgasm but since english is not my first language, I am not sure.

Thanks in advance for your input.

"Coming" is short for "Coming to a climax".
"Cum" is the substance/ejaculate.

So, if you write "Cumming", it's like saying you're "snotting" instead of sneezing, because there's snot flying around when you sneeze.

And don't even get me started on "Having a good cum" or "cummed on her face". There is no way to sound more like a thirteen-year-old who likes to assure his friends he "totally did ALL the sex" already...

Use of the word "come" (meaning to arrive) have been used to refer to orgasm since at least the 19th century and possibly a lot earlier. I'm not currently at home and can't check my normal resources, but I wouldn't be surprised if this dates to Shakespeare's time or earlier. The feeling of build-up and release pairs well with the literal meaning of the word come.

The spelling of cum/ cumming is much newer and is related to erotic writing. Personally, I prefer the "u" spelling for this purpose since it makes the meaning more clear, but it isn't really standardized.

Note: As an aside, I'll mention that "coming" only has one "m". Comming is an incorrect spelling that doesn't mean anything. The use of one or two Ms with the "u" spelling is variable.

Comming is an incorrect spelling that doesn't mean anything.

It's a shortened version of 'communicating', often used in military or sci-fi scenarios. 120 SOL stories contain 'comming', but at first glance more than half are misspellings of 'coming'.

I considered this as well, especially since the term "comm. station" seems fairly popular, but decided not to confuse the issue.

Years ago I mentioned "comming" to a couple of ex-navy friends, one of who was a signal specialist, and neither had actually ever heard it used. Of course, they both served in the Canadian Navy and left over 20 years ago, so slang may have changed.

If they can say they when they mean he, she, or it, then when it comes to kum I'm all for anything goes.

Every author will make their own choices for this.

My opinion is that "come" and "coming" are acceptable spellings for all uses, while "cum" and "cumming" are acceptable alternatives only when describing ejaculation, ejaculate, or orgasm (male or female). In my writing, I prefer "cum" for these purposes, because it is an informal spelling for a slang meaning.
