I've been trying to find an editor to help me with the incest epic I'm working on, but so far none of the volunteer editors on the site that I've messaged have replied.
Anywhere else I should look? Is there something I should be saying in the messages I'm sending?

It's been noted before that many VE's don't reply. I think that was/is the reason Laz requires VE's to reaffirm their desire to do so, every couple of years.
It takes seconds to simply type "Sorry, not interested." so I always find it strange when VE's don't reply to requests.

I believe it's a lot more frequent than that. In any case, perhaps OP should wait a week or two then send a list to Laz to check whether they are indeed still active.

That is also my understanding. However, I do not know the actual time frame, so I was playing it safe rather than giving a time that was potentially inacurate...
My name is down on the VE list and I have to re-confirm every few weeks or so - maybe monthly?. I am more a proof reader than editor. I have only had one writer ask me to check his new story and he sent me one chapter at a time which I proof read and then pointed out a big inconsistancy in the story line. I haven't heard from them since and I've not seen the story uploaded.
What sort of editing are you looking for? There's a big difference between developmental editing and proofreading. I sometimes do the former but not the latter. Hopefully your messages are making it clear what you're looking for.
The codes are also important. Some folks like me won't work with certain story types. If it's an incest story, that limits you some. If it has non-consent elements, that'll limit you even further. So you need to make your general codes clear up front.
