How to Promote a Bookapy release

icehead 🚫

My plan for when I finish with the epic I'm working on is to publish it on Bookapy first, then after a while start posting it here one chapter at a time for those who are willing to wait to read it for free, with links to the Bookapy page for readers who will start reading it here and don't want to wait to see the rest of it.

What I'm wondering is, what are some ways to promote a book published on Bookapy before readers have seen it on SOL? How can I draw people's attention to it and get some readers to see it before the free version gets posted?

The only thought I have is to post to your author blog (mentioning Bookapy, not sure if a link would be allowed...) The other authors here might have better ideas than that, though...

Put the link to your bookapy page on your author page. You would be surprised how many authors miss this one.

You can put 'Available on Bookapy' at the end of the description (Possibly in the end notes as well). Not everyone will read the blog so these give other places to get eyes on the information. Check Argon's current story for examples.

Nobody likes to buy a possible "pig-in-a-poke" sight unseen, unless there is a very strong history of quality stories.

You might do better to wait and just post the first few chapters on a set schedule - weekly or bi-weekly - before you announce the rest of it will be available on Bookapy for those who won't want to wait.

Bookapy allows anyone to read the beginning of a novel (like the "Look Inside" on Amazon KDP). Unless the author changes it, I believe the default sample size is 20% of the novel. So you never have to buy it "sight unseen."

I just can't resist jumping in with an amusing side bar… If you got the pig, that's what you paid for (a suckling piglet in a sack [poke] ). What you don't want is, after you get home from the market, and open your poke (sack) to have a cat or some other animal when you paid for a pig!

SB,

Is that right? I have 85 entries on my bookshelf, but never came across a "browser" reference ..

Yes. Click on the book cover of any novel and it will bring up the beginning of the book. Or click on the "read sample" link beneath the book cover. At the end of the sample you get the message: "That was a preview of [book title]. To read the rest purchase the book."

I don't know about books on your bookshelf, though. I don't know what happens when you put a novel there.

If you already purchased the book, why do you need to read a sample of the book?

But if you haven't purchased a book and are considering it, simply click on the book cover on Bookapy's home page or an author's page or wherever it exists. It will take you to that novel's page. There, if you click on the book cover or "read sample," you get the first 20% of the book to read to help decide it you want to purchase it.

Once it's up on bookapy, add your bookapy page link to your SOL profile.

You can also link to the book on Bookapy from each of your existing stories. The 'Manage Stories' functions on the site allows you to place an ad for your bookapy book at the end of your story, there is no restriction to the exact same story, so you can link from all 5 existing stories to your book on Bookapy.

You can also mention it in a blog post, but don't be spammy about it.
