Does anyone know what happened to Jay Cantrell?

I am trying to figure out if something happened to the author Jay Cantrell.

He had some amazing stores then just disappeared.

His patreon and amazon accounts do not have any recent activity.

I saw a link to an author page that had vital info in his stories and such, but it did not mention his status other than his last post.

What a shame that he has disappeared. His work was amazing. I've reread them multiple times.
I am hoping he just moved on and not that something worse happened.
I wonder if any if his editors or proofreaders have heard from him.

I did read it.
It was not overly clear if he was ending his writing career or just having issues.
He usually finished books before starting to post and never finished his last one which is why I was concerned about something else happening.
Again, if he moved on I wish him well, but many of us hope for his return to writing.

Yeah, I'm right there with you. Wish Jay Cantrell would come back and share a story or three. Really enjoyed his characters and plots. Honestly, one of the few who wrote stories that were just the right length. Didn't go on forever and have 2-3 follow up stories which were lesser quality than the original. He really wrote a fairly tight story. Hard to find such good authors.

There are multiple threads about Jay Cantrell.

I too enjoy many of his stories. Early during the Government Shutdowns mandated by various jurisdictions; Jay Cantrell posted that due to issues related to his employment, exacerbated by Covid-19 Government Shutdowns, and relatives (? IIRCC) moving into his family's home, he wouldn't be able to write for the foreseeable future.

I don't recall where he lives, however, Washington State has only ended many of its Government Regulations imposed (supposedly) because of Covid-19 within the last year. Some other jurisdictions maintained various restrictions, as well as some businesses and other entities.

Jay Cantrell mentioned some things, and inferred others.

Most important was his loss of a "private" space to write in his home. He also mentioned constraints on his time, that he anticipated continuing for some time (multiple years).

It seems clear to me that his circumstances were going to result in a multi-year absence from SoL; not just the duration of the disruptions resulting from Covid-19.

On the plus side, JC is one of the "younger" writers here, in (early?) middle age, as I recall him mentioning. So, it is likely he will return "in the fullness of time"...

I believe it is far more likely that he is in New England - or nearby - than Washington State, and that he is in his mid-50s.

I didn't mean to imply that Jay Cantrell lives in or near Washington. Sorry if I conflated circumstances that have afflicted other SoL authors that I know, and the particular circumstances of Jay Cantrell.I thought I was clear that I don't know where the gentleman lives.

I just reposted some information from other threads on this most recent one.

My error was also including some issues that have effected other authors on SoL, some of whom are back to posting, and others on the cusp of doing so. (I have been proofreading and otherwise assisting some, in return for similar assistance.) I intended to provide hope that since others in similar circumstances are returning to posting, JC might too.

From what I have been able to determine, writer's in their 50's on SoL is the Young part of the spectrum!

His interest in continuing writing seemed to diminish when his editor, BlackIrish, died. He only posted here for 6 months after he ran out of material BlackIrish had edited.

The book Contact Point was published soon after that, but I don't know if that was written earlier or not.

Having someone who is interested in your work and responsive, especially for giving thoughts about characters, plot, and theme, is really helpful and REALLY hard to find. At least, that's been my experience.

@Dinsdale

He was 35 around 2005 or 2006 and living near Pittsburgh so the 50s estimate seems right.
For some reason (not just reading Runaway Train) I got the impression that he was living somewhere around Nashville.
