The Hamburger Conspirancy

red61544 ๐Ÿšซ

I've noticed that there are two current stories: "Jack in the Box" by Deepinside and "Burger King Girl" by Every Denial. Is this some kind of nefarious plot? I know that, for years, we have had "In-and_Out" as the basis for the web site but if new stories contain "The McDonald Family" and their eldest daughter is "Wendy", I'm going to become very suspicious!

US fast-food/hamburger chains: Burger King, Wendy's McDonald's, In-N-Out, Jack-in-the-Box.

Of course, 'Five Guys' (another chain) would proably work well as a story title. ๐Ÿ˜œ

Burger King, Wendy's McDonald's are national/international.
In-N-Out and Jack-in-the-Box are regional
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In-N-Out_Burger

The chain is headquartered in Irvine, California and has expanded outside Southern California into the rest of California, as well as into Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Colorado, and Idaho, and is planning expansions into New Mexico and Tennessee.[5][6]

Jack-in-the-Box is a little less regional, but not truly national, having a presence in 22 of the 50 states.

Which doesn't negate what I said! I could have added 'Clock' and other ones which are not in the US, but all of the ones mentioned were.

And I didn't say that it did. My point was that there are a lot of people even in the US that have never heard of either In-N-Out or Jack-in-the-Box.

While such people exist, I believe most adults are aware of chains that are not by them. Both are nationally known if not nationally present.

To be clear, I have never lived near either and was aware of both of them by my 20's (I was aware of Jack when I was a kid, but that's because of the food poisoning cases)

Jack-in-the-Box

For a few years I had the dubious pleasure of residing in Orange County, California. One of my abiding memories of that time was the Roo Burger scandal in the Jack-In-The-Box chain. I remember the breakfast jocks on one of the popular radio stations ripped the piss out of JitB day after day.

Those of an ultra-curious nature can read the story here ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_meat_substitution_scandal

A few are still around in the UK. I believe it's a franchise over here - I don't know how it operates in the US, if at all. I expect Wikipedia (spit!) would have that information.

Does Wimpy's still exist?

As of June 2023, the company remains headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa, where it has 453 outlets, this is followed by the United Kingdom with 62 outlets. In 2017 and 2020, the company announced plans for nationwide expansion in the United Kingdom.

OMG - Limpy Burgers - they were really horrible, but in the day when my pre-teen person thought they were a good idea. Yes they still exist but no longer on every High Street in the UK. I was under the impression they were a purely British chain and were to a decent hamburger what British 1960's transport cafes were to haute cuisine.

"The McDonald Family" and their eldest daughter is "Wendy"

Actually Wendy is the daughter of the founder of Wendy's.

But the story "The McDonald Family does Wendy (a merger like no other)" could be a gang bang story.

If a person is incapable of inferring that two "unknown" names in a list of burger places are also "burger places", it's probably futile to try to enlighten them.

It's not just a matter of figuring out that they are supposed to be burger places.

If your only exposure to the names is through TV and movies, you might not realize that they are real chains and not fictional.

Thank you!

I always imagined fast food outlets mentioned in eg NCIS would be fictitious because they never seem to use ones that I've heard of.

I really doubt that anyone doesn't know that these are real chains.
There are tons of mentions of them on the internet, social media and click-bait sites, in addition to movies and TV. That doesn't even count the commercials for the companies on streaming broadcasts that often include out-of-area commercials.
You could also add in White Castle, Krystal, Hardee's, Carl Jr., Sonic.

I have eaten at all of these places except Krystal. Sonic is as popular as zits on a teenager. Hardee's was around when I was a kid back in the '70s but was replaced by Arby's. Carl's Jr's is still around and is a great place to get the Bacon Western Cheeseburger. Yum. White Castle still exist in my state's capital. At least I think so. I haven't seen it since my 20s so It may not after all this time. I liked those little square burgers on Hawaiian rolls.

I think it's more a case of a person inferring from one name in three matching a burger joint that the other two must also be burger joints.

As the author of "Jack In The Box" I found this thread gave me a big chuckle. It was not my intention to reference a fast food chain, rather I was thinking about those wind up toys where a figure pops up unexpectedly. Hope that clarifies the mystery of a nefarious plot unfolding. :)

PS I posted the conclusion to Jack In The Box today so it should be online soon.

White Castle burger chain is mostly in the upper mid-west, but their burgers are sold by WalMart almost everywhere (frozen).
