Father and Son's name

Catman ๐Ÿšซ

If a father was named Raymond, or Ray-man would the son be named Ray-boy? I think that way back when the world was still flat, I knew a guy named Ray-boy. I have used the name for one of my characters and when a friend read the story he asked me about the name, and I just could not remember where I heard it.

If you have a son would he be cat-boy?

Nope! Catman came from the Catamaran boats I wrote about. I really don't like cats at all.

I can see 'Ray-boy' being the nickname of a Raymond Jr - especially in the years prior to him being considered an adult.

Unfortunately the -mond doesn't mean man. It comes from the Germanic root munt meaning "protection".

Oddly, although the name was introduced to England by the Normans, the "Ray" is not a corruption of roi but comes from another Germanic root, ragin or regin, meaning advice or counsel.

The name Reginald, which is the Latinised version of Reynold, comes from the same regin root, but a different suffix.
