Presidential Meals

PotomacBob ๐Ÿšซ

For possible use in WIP - I remember reading a story (maybe even seeing a photograph) of Donald Trump with a bunch of McDonald's burgers that he was going eat and serve to some other people at the White House.
Does the Secret Service have to clear food brought into the White House for the President to eat? If so, how do they do that? If not, isn't that an opportunity for a terrorist to try to poison the president?

I imagine that someone doesn't go to McDonald's saying "I need 300 cheeseburgers for the White House to be served for the president of the United States". Probably just done as a mass order honestly even if it is paid for with a government credit card.

Personally, given the minimum wage slaves that work in fast-food restaurants, and the general garbage quality of the food, I don't think anyone would have to actively try to poison someone with that crap.

He did that for a championship team that came to the White House during a Government shutdown and had no cooking staff.

I forgot it was a shutdown. I like fast food more than i should, and I'll even eat McDonald's now and then, but McDonald's that's been sitting around for God knows how long? No thanks.

My supposition is that Secret Service Agents, or possibly members of their "Uniformed Branch" were present in the "Micky D's" kitchen, observing (providing security; making sure no Rat Poison was added, as in the Lady Ga Ga "Telephone" video) "specially" prepared food (as in special order, just as they would when catering to, say a high school debate event, etc.), then rushed to the WH in a black SUV.

A couple of decades ago my US Army unit was participating in flood relief activities. We did not have a Mess Section with us, and the Red Cross pulled out for reasons unknown. On their own initiative a local McDonald's provided breakfasts for our 150 or so soldier, by that I mean over 400 meals, as we were working 18 to 20 hour days, and were hungry young men!

All the food was hot and fresh, various "McMuffins" biscuit sandwiches, and the "Big Breakfasts" w/ scrambled eggs, sausage patties, hashbrown patties, and pancakes; also plenty of Hot Coffee and cold orange juice, even milk.

Of course, the next day the local Burger King donated, then the Wendy's! Our other meals were provided by local families whose homes we were saving, severed at a volunteer fire station. We ate very well while we were there!

I don't eat fast food very often. But those meals were better than most times I have resorted to grabbing a breakfast at a drive through. (Perhaps it was because I was a very Hungry, and Young NCO!)

That seems odd? I know that at least part of the White House kitchen staff includes US Navy stewards, of ten of Filipino birth or ancestry (it is over a 100 year tradition, I mean the Filipino part, what started as discrimination in Rates in the US Navy were "allowed" to serve in, some 50 years ago became a mark of Honor, and since the Senior Chiefs in charge have significant influence on who their replacement is...)

Perhaps I am too cynical, but I believe that ,similar to too many Military and Naval Traditions, this one too has been Relegated to the Ash Heap of History in the name of equality in our shuffling towards a "Brave New World" "Thank Ford!"

Unless the kitchen staff is laid off due to a government shutdown over a budget or debt ceiling impasse.

Yeah. I have heard through various sources that the White House Chef(s) and kitchen staff became quite proficient at serving "McDonald's style" burgers during the Trump administration.

I have read that POTUS GW Bush, POTUS Clinton, and POTUS LBJ were all fond of "simple food" hot dogs, buggers, "chitlins" french fries, etc.
