If you start with this "No offence intended" please finish it.
It should be "No offence intended but I would be lying"
Or "To those who were offended I am sorry."
It should be "To those who were offended I wasn't talking to you."

People were offended because you didn't talk to me?
People were offended because you didn't talk to me?
Whenever someone is accused of offending people they are expected to say they are sorry when they really want to say "I wasn't talking to you."
offence: annoyance or resentment brought about by a perceived insult to or disregard for oneself:
Offence is subjective, so anything you say or do could be found offensive by someone. But what happens when they are offended? Nothing substantive at all. They feel offended, but that does not cause bodily harm, it might cause mental harm, in which case they have bigger problems than you offending them. Indeed there are some who thrive on being offended and if no offence is offered will go seeking it.
So I say be offended, it is harmless and who knows, with further thought and/or education the perceived offence may well evaporate in a cloud of common sense.
YMMV

As for being honest, it is the main cause of offence. A sadly large percentage of people are offended when faced with the truth.

Truer words were never spoken. I was brought up to always tell the truth but it took no more than a couple weeks in the first grade to convince me that wouldn't work. Very few people actually want to hear the truth. What woman is asking for the truth when she says, "Does this dress make my ass look big?" The truth would be, "No, dear, your ass doesn't look any bigger than it always does!" Truth when asked "Are you glad to see me?" or "Do you want to get together over the weekend?" are sure fire ways to never see a person again. Truth, when it hurts no one, is always best but, since there is someone who will always be offended, truth suffers.
"Does this dress make my ass look big?"
Would it be the wrong answer if you broke out in song ?

I don't understand why women ask their love ones a question that has a answer that could piss them off. The "ass" question is a no-win for the husband. If you say yes, you think she's fat, if you say no she thinks you are lying.
People need to follow the advice most lawyers use. Never ask a question you don't know the answer to.
You just haven't been married long enough. The correct answer to the ass question is: No, dear, that dress showcases your ass, perfectly.
"Does this dress make my ass look fat?"
"No, dear, it's in fact exactly the opposite."
Let her figure that out.
"Does this dress make my ass look fat?"
"I didn't know you rode your donkey wearing that dress."

"Does this dress make my ass look fat?"
"I doubt we'll ever know, dear. If you barely fit into it, the donkey has no chance."

And the next thing you were aware of was waking up in the hospital. :)
Is it the dress that makes her ass look fat,
or is it her ass which makes the dress look fat?
Questions to ponder while you recover in the hospital.
Is it the dress that makes her ass look fat,
or is it her ass which makes the dress look fat?
Does it rely on if the stripes are vertical or horizontal?
If vertical stripes make you look slimmer, then what happens when you lie down?
Do they make you look fatter?
If vertical stripes make you look slimmer
Does the painting of vertical lines you paid $2,000,000 for make your wallet look slimmer?

No. It was a non-fungible token and you paid using bitcoin ;-)

Two things I don't mind seeing people lose to money on.
