I Am Who Am.
Do you need a personification of God? Perhaps a Presence would be more appropriate. A light, perhaps too bright to look at directly.
Or a feeling, a "presence" felt as much by your soul as any physical sense.
As for appearance, Jews were (some still are) among the Sematic peoples, perhaps less like Arabs, and more like the ancient "Mediterranean peoples as depicted in ancient art.
The twelve tribes of Israel were taken to Egypt in slavery, then returned to their homeland and conquered or assimilated with other Sematic peoples who had settled there in their absences. Then the Babylonians came, followed by the Greeks/Macedonians invaders, then the Romans, the Arabs fired by Islam, then the Ottoman Empire, and now European and African Jews have returned to the "Promised Land"
Observant (religious) Jews don't believe that God has a physical form, at least not one that we may comprehend. If I understand correctly, it is our Soul that is in God's "Image"
If God chose to manifest in human form, say as Jesus, he could manifest in any human form, male or female. God is omnipotent.
Just my two-cents.
P.S. I think that Charlton Heston was an inspired choice, as much as for his voice, and gravitas. If I were to chose a black actor, James Earl Jones in his prime might be a good choice. A modern actor, Jim Caviezel might be good.
