Does anyone here use Atticus to write and format? I saw an ad and it looks neat, but can't decide if the price tag is worth it. Thoughts?

I'm not using it. But by what I see in their promotional material, I don't think I would.
It doesn't seem to offer anything Google Docs doesn't also offer, and that's free. Atticus is just a lot easier to use, because it has less functions you'd need to familiarize yourself with.
Even Microsoft Word has more options for formatting and styling, but doesn't offer a native option to export your book as an epub.

LibreOffice does have exporting as EPUB as a native option.

Yes, it does. However, when I've used that for stories to be posted on Bookapy, they have issues. I think one of the biggest problems with the different EPUB generators is that there are so many different EPUB READERS out there, what you generate and looks good for you may not work well for someone else.
The KISS principle seems to work best for me. Take a story that Laz has made into an EPUB, then use a lot of his code in style sheet. I'm not up to date on computers any longer, so it's a hell of a lot easier for me that way.
You might find this youtube video helpful. While I haven't tried his approach, it did answer a number of questions regarding how to proceed. BTW, the download address for the zip files works. Hope this helps
