Amazon Kindle Books locations

oldegrump ๐Ÿšซ

Good Morning;

I just purchased an E-book from Amazon. It shows up when I open my Kindle reader, but I cannot find it on my computer. I need to transfer it to my laptop, but I don't know how to do that. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you install the Kindle for PC Reader on your laptop and register it correctly with Amazon, it should download everything in your Kindle library directly from Amazon.

If that doesn't happen, go to https://www.amazon.com/hz/mycd/digital-console/alldevices and verify that you can see the kindle for pc install for your laptop.

Once you've verified that your laptop's Kindle for PC install is registered with Amazon correctly, you can go to https://www.amazon.com/hz/mycd/digital-console/contentlist/booksAll/dateDsc/ .

This will show a list of all Kindle books you have purchased from Amazon. Next to each Kindle book are three buttons. the top one is Deliver or Remove from device.

In addition to what Dominions Son said, note that on newer versions of Windows you'll probably need to install Kindle for PC via the Microsoft App Store in the Start menu. You can't just download the program from Amazon as you might expect.

As annoying as this is, it's part of their DRM. In essence, Kindle for PC is functioning the way that apps do, with each new installation being a "new device" attached to your account rather than a PC program that accesses an account.

Where is it:
In Kindle for PC go to Tools > Options > Content
The "Current Content Folder" is where the books are located.
However keep in mind that:
Only downloaded content will show up.
Purchased content may be encrypted and thus limited that Kindle device

How to get it on the laptop:
You can go to amazon.com > Accounts & List > Your Account > Content & Devices > Books
https://www.amazon.com/hz/mycd/digital-console/contentlist/booksAll/dateDsc/

For each book listed there is a "More Actions" button. There you can among other things choose: Download & transfer via USB (if the book is not encrypted) or Read Now which will open the book in the browser via https://read.amazon.com/

Alternatively, You can install Kindle for PC on hte laptop and link it to your account (it hasn't been available on the Microsoft Store for years now)

You can purchase Kindle for PC for 0 USD at:
https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Digital-Services-LLC-Download/dp/B00UB76290
