Stories without Poly relationships?

mrfriendly8181 ๐Ÿšซ

Let me preface this with a disclaimer: I have no problem with Poly relationships (real or fictional), however it feels as if a majority of the stories on here include poly relationships regardless of genre. What I've been looking for is stories about relationships in turmoil, breakups, heartbreak, and many, if not all, of the stories I've read which include poly relationships the characters involved are completely happy with the situation. No matter the setting or era of the story the characters embrace a poly relationship without a second thought.

I admit I've been "researching" breakup drama because I've never dealt with that in my life. I wanted to see how other, more talented, writers have dealt with heartbreak and drama in their writing. In poly relationships there isn't any, at least in any of the stories I've read. It seems as if all poly relationships are perfect or flawless and lack any jealousy (at least in story form).

Any recommendations for stories that don't have poly relationships? Any length as long as it focuses on the turmoil of a breakup, heartbreak, or just raw emotions driven by relationships.

I've read most of Aroslav, all of Jay Cantrell, some of Bebop3, Argon, RCM, Mushroom, Always Raining, Coaster2, Pennlady, Qhml1, and SmokinDriver.

Thank you for answering all of my incessant requests.

Two questions:

1. Do you want them with or without break ups?

2. Do you want them with or without graphics sex scenes?

1. Poly with break ups would fit the bill. Any relationships with break ups. It's just that so far I've not found any poly relationships with unhappy participants. I know it happens IRL but don't encounter it in stories.

2. I'd prefer to avoid stories with no sex. I've never written a sex scene and will need to eventually.

I know of a few real life poly relationships and once they fully formed with agreed acceptance by all they've not broken up. Mind you, some did have a few people tryout membership and not join. In my personal opinion, if they get to the point where the get on that well as a group they have enough group dynamics to handle just about anything.

A few of my stories have poly relationships, some stories with sex scenes and some without sex scenes; but not with the break up angst or dynamics in them.

I've known a couple of poly relationships and one ended in flames while the other, last I heard, was going strong after a few issues where stress and lack of communication caused problems. I've moved away from the SF Bay Area so I have no idea how any of the people in either situation are now. Overall it seems to be an issue with how "all in" people are willing to be, if there's any doubt or hesitation then it won't work out. Which is true of any relationship really. People seem to not understand that communication needs to happen all the time.

Hmm โ€” that list of authors covers just about all the one-couple breakup stories I've read that I'd recommend. Keep trying the rest of their stories, is my best advice. Well, only advice. Sorry.

(Now mind you, I'm looking for stories about polycule breakups, either complete fractures or just one person departing, for the same reason you mention. The Defenseman is the only one I've met, and it's not the most helpful on the realistic psychology front.)

I stopped reading the Defenceman because the author never finished the series. I'd hate to get so invested into a story or the characters and never know what happens.

I stuck with it as long as I did out of a morbid fascination over, okay, how is the author going to make the current relationship implode this time? I finally stopped at a point where it was clear it would be via a stupid ass-pull.

Usually I avoid all unfinished stories/series, though.

I can understand that, even now I find myself curious to see what happened in the story. I liked the fact that the author knew hockey and made it interesting. I'd love to read a similar story where the main character isn't superman as a freshman high school football player.
