There's a few westerns with that theme. Wes Boyd did a couple stories like that too.
Jay Cantrell did one that kinda fits that was pretty good.
The Chicago family (Mother and daughter end up as river guides, son is weapons designer married to coworker) all had drama-laden returns - especially the son's wife.
Most of his stories, though, aren't on SOL. Dunno if most of them are still on Gina's site. Might have to go to his site.

Not really, Father stays in Chicago area, Mother moves to Flagstaff and I don't remember her returning at all (except maybe off-screen), both son & his wife only return to hometowns as a short visit of less than a day (so not really coming back home), elder daughter remains itinerant and only returns for a couple of short visits, younger daughter leaves and never returns. Lots of drama on the visits, though.

53 are on BtFH, which is currently posting #58; SLT site is currently posting #61 and I'd be surprised if there are many more, since we've hadd the eight reported as available when he died. BtFH is missing Rocinante, Absent Friend, Dawnwalker, Andromeda Chained, Three From Bradford, and those later than the current posting, none of which are on here.
