Was reading a while ago a story about a teenager who was living with his sister while his mom was deployed to the sandbox. On a whim he buys a lottery ticket and turns out to the the only winner. Story is about his efforts to keep his worthless brother-in-law from stealing it, while taking care of his sister and others.

Usually the bulk of the money comes from the law suits about the death of family members, such as in Survivor and Finding Home. However, in Michaels Mansion and Mallard Heir the initial wealth comes from lost valuables found on site while in Life is Change it comes from hard work. While A Farmer's Life is an oddity with a mix of both and an M/C who doesn't understand what wealth is.
The Millionaire Next Door is a great read. Shiloh also has wealth coming from other sources.

Thanks for the insights Ernest. It was O-dark thirty when I posted and my brain was not fully engaged to sort out which stories were which. I have recently reread most of them (4th or 5th time) and still enjoy them a lot.
