@NC-RetiredThere is a story published on its own website called "The Wandering Inn." It is about a bajillion words, published serially over several years. My stock saying about it is, with props to the Eternal Emperor, "Reading this story will help you with PTSD. And if you don't have PTSD? You will."
The story is a LitRPG-ish isekai type story, where a bunch of "real world" 20-somethings are transplanted from a range of places on Earth to a range of places on not-Earth. The initial story follows nice middle-American girl Erin, and even in that first season there are a bunch of tear-jerker moments. As the story evolves, other transplantees get added, and some of them end up in very unsavory places. (For SOL readers: There is very little sexual content, or even sex-adjacent content. But there are plenty of war crimes. Also a fair amount of comedy, so it's not a total downer -- it wouldn't have so damn many readers and so damn many words if it were.)
If you read it, keep a box of tissues on your desk. But it can be the small square box, for facial use.
