The MC became a celebrity after working as a model to help pay for his mother's Cancer treatments. He has used influence in government and other institutions, including organized crime to assist a wide variety of people (sometimes without them knowing he helped).
Banadin's early Rick Jackson stories could apply, although it takes awhile before young Ricky becomes aware of either his (very high) governmental connections ... or his mother's influence with a senior crime boss or to influential longshoremen ...

I was not using the official titles, but the common story references, and was following the MC's choice of character name .. Rick Jackson. Started as Ricky Jackson, but chose the more adult address of Rick Jackson as the character aged. Richard Jackson mostly used when his mom is upset, or in official addressing ... Sir Richard, and later titles.
The Jackson family doesn't have the sort of ties the OP seems to be talking about, their ties were more of the "Senior crime bosses are very careful not to offend them and tend to die if they do" type of contacts and obviously Rick never needed to use that influence to help his mother or sister.
IIRC Dbuck had mafia connections in one of his stories. Probably The Weakling. Unfinished and I suspect unlikely to be.
