Some stories are about how the world changes our hero, this is a story about how our heroes change the world. It is the ultimate anti-prime directive series and probably the best ongoing epic fantasy story in production right now. Highly recommend if you like Discworld/Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Lord of the Rings/Wheel of Time.
The classic ones are Mark Twain's A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court and Lest Darkness Fall by L. Sprague de Camp.
