I apologize in advance if this post falls in the forbidden category but Amazon Kindle has "The Cabinet of Linguistic Curiosities" on sale for just $1.99. Has an unusual word for every day accompanied by an historical event to match. It may provide food for thought in our writings.
I'm not sure it's a match, yet I may have that one. Except mine is more about odd usages, more macabre and just weird than anything else.
I'll have to dig it out and check. And yes, I did purchase it from that great river source that keeps drowning and sweeping away most every other author or indie-publisher.
