Perhaps stroking my own ego, but more looking for a 'qualified'(?) benchmark to try and improve my own writing. I am aware of some issues with 'Off The Deep End' which more come from my posting while I was writing it, but would like to see what the experienced readers of SOL who pen the reviews would say.
I currently have two completed and one currently posted works on SOL, and am working on my next one. I would welcome anybody who wants to write about my writing.

Good feedback will help more than reviews. Reviews are for readers and tend to be positive. I don't see them helping an author improve.
I agree. Personally, I recommend a request in the fore note or end note of the story asking for 'constructive corrections' from the readers. I for one (and I am sure there are probably other readers who feel the same) will not make suggestions unless there is a specific request by the author to do so. I found early on that unsolicited advice is not always appreciated.
You could then build a relationship with the better commenters to get more in-depth suggestions and also possible proofreaders.
For those offering the advice I recommend the crap sandwich approach.
Start with what you like about the story. It lets the author know where they are doing well and builds good will.
Follow with the area of concern / correction and, if possible, some alternatives or where to research.
Finish off with some positive reinforcement and gratitude for the author's efforts so far.

Another management mantra that applies as well:
Praise in public, correct in private.
Public comments / forum posts are NOT the appropriate place for corrections.
Agreed. I always send my typo corrections via the "Contact author" link. Well, unless there IS no email, the comments are turned on, and it's a REALLY important correction.
